Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

From Mole head

Canberra are considering letting controversial centre Joey Leilua test the open market for next season.

Leilua helped steer the Raiders to this year's grand final but is a polarising character with considerable baggage.

A match-winner on his day, he also has errors and discipline problems in his game.

The hard-running centre is also on a hefty $650,000 pay packet and if he left, it would ease the Raiders' salary cap problems considerably.

But the problem is that no rival club would be prepared to match that offer, with the Raiders having to tip in at least $200,000 to move Leilua on.

Rival clubs have been made aware of the situation and are currently doing their sums.

Obviously the figures could be wrong, but I’d definitely take a punt of BJ for 450k.

That reporter doesn't have any good contacts or the blake green tweet wouldn't have happened. Ill be worried about lack of signings com January if it is still the case.

The club unlike some other clubs does not advertise when they are interested in various players. Api was a good example of this. They tend to play their cards close to their chests.

I do disagree about Nath not having any good contacts. He is good at his job with a wide base of contacts from within the club and the community.

Fair enough, I am not overly familiar with him it just seemed a bit amateur with that Green tweet and then back track.

If you are on twitter he's one of the good folks to follow about Penrith Panthers news. He's one of the good uns. I notice that unlike many in the media when finding out further information he corrected his original tweet. Sadly many wouldn't.

If they play their cards close to their chest it’s only in relation to signings, for everything else it leaks like the titanic.

Leulia will have the Raiders paying a chunk. That is pretty crucial when you consider the players we are probably paying for elsewhere.

First priority is to sign the best players followed by the above. However things aren't what they used to be. We will soon know if our knew recruitment team/Panthers brand still interests players.

Also the western weekender did hint at the Apisai signing weeks before it happened

https://westernweekender.com.au/2019/08/lang-on-league-round-22/

They were wrong on the following.

Realistically a much smaller and believable list of targets has emerged. It may not be as sexy and glamorous as some of the above names but there are still a few handy players on this hit list including Dylan Walker, Ryan Matterson, Alex Twal, Josh Morris and Esan Marsters.

Expect at least two on that list to be signed and announced in the next month. I’d also expect some names NOT on the above list to join the club as well.
https://westernweekender.com.au/2019/09/lang-on-league-finals-week-2/

Walker's re-signed. Twal extended, Marsters off to the Cowboys.
WW clarified a week later we were no longer in the hunt for Matterson.

Maybe our interest in the above was genuine, but the money wasn't right. I think the petulant Matterson may go to the highest bidder.

Next 6-8 weeks will be interesting.

I will be very interested to see who the club attracts under Ivan without Gould's pulling power.

Likewise.

He was never going to be here forever. Apart from a premiership I'm not sure what else he needed to do to get us moving forward. Though I'm certain signing Ivan Cleary wasn't in his plans. Especially the way we went about it.
