I hope we get these two guys and hopefully a gun back that gets plucked out of nowhere.
Alex Johnston is only going to leave Souths if he is granted the No. 1 jersey and he doesn't have enough ball playing to justify it. He is not an upgrade on Corey Thompson in my view.

We need a goal kicker desperately. I find it bizarre that the club is sitting on its hands with this.

Johnston would feel like another Jennings signing to me, has only ever really looked somewhat decent outside quality players. He has speed tho and I’d be more than happy if we got him as a winger

As for the goal kicking, thought momi really started to solve our goal kicking woes at the back end

Not really sitting on our hands...nobody wants to come here

I read your thoughts on Momo, not sure if I agree, I thought he was playing and kicking well at the end of last season, can only improve with a full off season with us and a bit of security to get a starting spot.
I assume that was why they let Masters go?

But I do agree, that Thommo is good enough to keep his spot. Spend the money elsewhere.

My bet is that Momo"s season defining "nerves"miss against the dogs will be his motivation for the rest of his goalkicking career...he was pretty damn good after that with no sign of nerves at all...if he can hold a spot in the side i think hell get the job done more than well enough

If he signs and my guess he will, AJ will be our no1 and I think he will be better than what we have. No super star, but is very good at reading short kicking games both in attack and defence, good at backing up and speed to burn.

you would also think he has plenty of motivation to prove uncle a Wayne was wrong

I'm fine with AJ as long as its a short term contract. If he proves to be a terrific fullback then great, we can extend his contract on fullback money. If he can't crack it then we offer him a winger contract (provided we don't land JAC)

Win win for everyone

Does anyone think any of those rookies have what it takes to be quality NRL players next year. Is anyone going to come on like Farah/Benji/Horsehead ?

I think he is a very capable player. Only featured in first grade for half the season and went close to being our top try scorer. Apparently Robbo really rated him at Easts but he was never looking likely behind Latrell and Manu.

Out of those I have pretty high hopes for Simpkins and Cini, haven’t really seen enough of the others to comment.

Simpkins is a big kid for his age and made the transition from U18s to QCup quite easily. I think that’s a good sign for a youngster

Tbh, I reckon it would be worth a gamble to upgrade Simpkins to a full time contract. #9 is such a crucial position and we are going into round 1 so far without a specialist dummy half.

Maybe Madge is waiting to see if he impresses in the trials

I would certainly be happier with WT having a full-time trained hooker ready for round 1 than hobble something together to cover for around half the season or more until Liddle can play. What that would mean for Liddle probably is going back to second string, going elsewhere or if his body is not up to it retiring.

as much as I like the kid, I think the Liddle experiment is starting to get old. Yes we persisted with Marshall and Tedesco through their injury problems but they certainly didn’t look out of place one bit when they first started. Liddle still has a long way to go to even establish himself

Simpkins already has the build and was a major cog in steering his state cup team all the way to the GF. It worked with Parra and Roosters this year, they gambled on kids at #9 and it paid off, I say why not

I don't think you can until round 16 of that year as he is signed to a development contract.

I think on his current dev contract he can only play after round 16 yes, but if he was upgraded and filled a spot in the top 30 roster he is available to play round 1 maybe? Not 100% sure though

I get what you're saying, but are you able to upgrade him to the top 30 before then as well or is he locked out?
