With the NRL Nines being reintroduced to the calendar and set to be played in the beautiful Western city of Perth there may be fans considering coming West for a short break to take in the event and see this stunning part of Australia. Here's info and travel tips for those considering it. A great Valentines weekend away with the loved one maybe?

Date: Fri 14th and Sat 15th Feb
Venue HBF Park, Perth
Tickets: https://tickets.nrl.com/nrl-nines

About the venue: HBF park has a 21,500 capacity with about 19,000 of that being seating. The East stand is the main stand but will be facing into the sun by KO on Friday and for most of Saturday afternoon. The East stand is very tall and steep so if you are near the back of the stand it is quite a trek down to the bar and toilets but will give you the best shade. Perth in Feb is hot hot hot so be prepared for a tan! The West stand is limited public seating but will be more in the shade as the day goes on. The South stand is uncovered but a great elevated view behind the sticks and the North stand is a mix of uncovered lower bowl seating and standing in the more elevated "shed area" which is covered. The stadium is in walking distance of two good entertainment areas - Northbridge which is about a 15min walk and full of bars and restaurants and Beaufort Street, about 10mins away, where the Queens is a good pub and there are cafes down the street to the stadium. Nearest pub is the Brisbane which is 5mins from HBF but gets full early and getting in on game day can be a challenge

Tickets are currently selling for between $60-$100 for a two day pass and at moment there are seats on sale in South stand, East stand and lower bowl North stand.

Of course coming all this way you're going to want to spend a bit of time exploring our great city so here's my top ten things to do whilst in town:

1. Breakfast on the cappuccino strip then take a stroll around Fremantle and sink a few cold ones at some of the towns great old pubs (markets open Fri-Sun)
2. Lunch and lazy afternoon at Little Creatures in Freo. Grab a table overlooking the harbour and enjoy a few LC Pale Ale's straight from the brewers keg, doesn't get any better!
3. Elizabeth Quay, Perths newest City area, still under development but a nice stroll around and lunch at the brewery overlooking the Swan followed by a couple in the Lucky Shag gives great river views and laid back vibes
4. Kings Park at night. Great view over the city all lit up
5. Snorkelling at Mettams pool followed by lunch at Sorrento Quay. Head just north of the city along the scenic coast drive for a great safe spot for snorkelling then onto Sorrento Quay for a cool one in the Breakwater and a spot of lunch. Sorrento Quay is a great safe swimming area if you are bringing kids
6. Day trip to Rotto. Just 25kms off shore but a world away from the city. Rotto has great snorkelling and a super chilled vibe, a must do if you're coming to Perth in summer.
7. Hire a boat at Mandurah. Cruise around the canals and watch Dolphins playing. Lunch at our famous fish and chip shop Cicarellos is a must
8. Day out in Swan Valley (about 30mins from city). With loads of wineries, breweries, cideries and distilleries, plus chocolate factories and a variety of other attractions Swan Valley is a great day out to feast and drink. Plenty of tours etc you can get and the river wine cruise is always a favourite.
9. Explore the city - Perth mint is a great experience and chance to see our famous gold mining history, cultural centre with art gallery and cafes, shops and river front, at night some great roof top bars in CBD and West end areas are always lively on a weekend
10. Burswood, just across the River from the city take a walk around our new stadium precinct. Lovely parklands, kids play areas, fancy new footbridge and a chance to see our beautiful new Optus stadium (tours available). There is a great pub next to the stadium (The Camden) with good food and beer and a table overlooking the beautiful Swan River.

Of course if you are staying longer you can venture further afield and visit the lovely SW area including Busselton, Dunsborough and the Margaret River region.

Hope that helps for anyone considering coming over to Perth for the Nines. Any questions the locals can help with please just ask.

If I went to little Creatures for lunch and a lazy afternoon, there is f**king zero chance I would make it to the football.

Anyone seen any ticket code offers? Plenty of empty seats left so hoping they are going to be some deals soon!

If the NRL screw nines up again (they will), they need to hand the concept over to me and my team to give it a real chance.

why in the f**k isn’t this sat-sun??
A bunch of reasons off the top of my head, mostly about travel:
  • Trials - having it Fri-Sat means teams can get home Sunday and have a full week to prepare for the following week's trials
  • WCC - Roosters having to jet out to England
  • All Stars - maximising the length of camp for all involved

Because they dont give a f**k about fans. I'm quite surprised the WA Govt agreed to it given they are paying millions to host it and hope to get lots of fans travelling from over East to attend.
