Maybe some subconscious aversion to using the colour of national sports teams? *shrugs*

Mind you, there's precious few teams here in New Zealand that wear green - aside from teams that represent Manawatu province (traditional colours green & white).

Yeah could be the national thing. Not many colours match “well” with green, yellow/gold is one but yes that’s our national team colours. White goes with everything so could def be a colour scheme to be used.

American teams have plenty. Eg NFL have;

Packers - Green/Yellow
Jets - Green / White
Eagles - Green / Silver / Black
Seahawks - Green / Blue / White

Many many shades of green and then gold, that teams could use without looking like Australia. Other teams- Cudgen Hornets, Helensvale Hornets, Wattles Warriors to name a few.

On another note, Western Suburbs and NZ literally shared the exact jersey for 80 years and pretty sure I was the only person who brought it up...

Question that has been bugging me for ages.

In the 2001 Grand final, the Knights wore their red and blue striped socks, with the single white line in the middle (see photo below)

Generally these socks were worn with the away kit (photo from rd 7 2001):

These were the home socks worn with the home strip

Wondered if anyone had a story on why they wore them in the GF?

Also, whilst searching for these photos. I realised the Knights jersey sponsor must have changed from Impulse to Flight Centre just before the finals series. Any story on why that was?

Not sure about the reason for changing socks, but with regards to sponsors, in 2001 Impulse Airlines started to go into financial distress. To try and salvage the company, the owners formed an agreement with QANTAS were they wet leased all their services to QANTAS, who would then market the routes and give Impulse a cash injection to the company. The agreement contain a further option for QANTAS to buy out the company, which they did, especially as even with the cash injections, Impulse wasn't able to turn things around and more or less told the Knights they couldn't continue servicing their sponsorship.

Flight Centre took over the sponsorship for what was pretty much the finals, with the QANTAS re-picking it up straight after and putting their branding on the Knights 2002 World Club Challenge jersey:

And then using the QANTAS Link branding for the regular season.

Great Sponsorship integration there with Qantas.

If/When Super League starts up again, Wigan will be down a sponsor as Shearings Holidays have gone into administration. They were also the club's travel partner and fans had booked packages through them for Toronto/Perpignan.
