2020 Presidents Cup & Sydney Shield

There is some interest from clubs in the Illawarra comp in joining Massey for 2020.

3 of the 7 Illawarra comp sides have pulled out (collies, dapto and Berkeley). Apparently they think it’s to hard to keep players safe / comply with rules.

Illawarra has said their comp will be an amateur comp but can’t see it going ahead with only 4 sides.

However group 7 is going ahead, so could be an opportunity to merge the comps for a year.

With the amount of clubs considering pulling out I get the feeling we won't see Massey or Shield return this season. Anyone have inside word from clubs or NSWRL?

Glebe-Burwood are definitely in for Massey and Sydney Uni will continue in Shield as well. As has been previously stated here, Hills are keen to play on in both grades and Belrose are in for Shield as well. Not sure about anyone else (other than those who have already formally withdrawn).

This is what i have heard

Ron Massey Cup

Asquith Magpies - 50/50
Blacktown Workers - Out
Cabramatta - Out
Fiji Silktails - Out
Glebe Burwood - In
Guildford Owls - Out
Hill District Bulls - In
Mounties - 80% No
St Marys - 80% No
Wenty - 90% No
Windsor - Out
Maitland - In

Sydney Shield

Asquith Magpies - 50/50
Belrose Eagles - In
Blacktown Workers - Out
Cabramatta - Out
East Campbelltown - In
Guildford Owls - Out
Hill District Bulls - In
Moorebank Rams - 50/50
Penrith Brothers - 50/50
Ryde Eastwood - 50/50
St Marys - 80% No
Sydney University - In
Wenty - 90% No
Windsor - Out

Five clubs out of Massey and Shield have indicated they will play in 2020. Add Maitland to it and you would have a six team comp at best.

It's not looking good. If the four teams who are 50/50 commit then you would be looking at a 10 team comp which could work but you would be merging Shield and Massey together.

The reactions of the Clubs to a temporary situation are extraordinary. Except Windsor, which is so small that every cent of profit goes to the football club, these businesses have been established for many years and have plenty of padding to cover a 2-3 month blip. For perspective, consider that the Sharks club will be closed for years not months while they rebuild.

You've obviously got some inside knowledge about the finances of these clubs. So what you are telling us is that these club's can close for 10 weeks and because they have "plenty of padding" they should be able to continue as before? Where do u obtain this information ?

If you go through rightleftins previous posts you can see each clubs financial details.
I’m surprised as well that the bigger clubs are pulling the pin on this years comps.
