If that's the case, can some these brand-new stadiums be built in more convenient locations?
Liverpool instead of Campbelltown for the Tigers & Bulldogs?

I agree that Liverpool is much better than Cbtwn.

Liverpool can get people from closer in the city and CT people dont have too much of a trip.

In CT, i dont think we can expect people closer to the city to bother to head out.

Manly Oval instead of Brooky for the Sea Eagles?

I reckon traffic would be shocking

Campbelltown and Brookvale are a given to be upgraded. I believe Newcastle's MCDONALD JONES STADIUM should be completed and have stands on the Northern and Southern end of the ground.
Leichardt Oval to have all the seats to be replaced and an upgrade of the corporate facilities which might include a new Stand on the Northern end. If there is any $ left upgrade Kogarah corporate facilities which might mean a Southern new stand .

give up on leichhardt and Jubilee. it's lipstick on a pig. furthermore, each of those venues are only used 4-6 times each season for NRL. once the new SFS is built, Sydney FC will be out of Jubilee too.

i like the push for new facilities. and if they are small enough, perhaps clubs that use them, or the game itself, can end up owning the f**king things eventually.

NRL considers stadium ownership options

The NRL will explore stadium ownership opportunities that may result from its push for new suburban grounds to ensure it has an asset base that protects rugby league’s future.

Rugby League Central is campaigning for up to four “mini Bankwest Stadiums” to be built after the NSW Government announced that it has abandoned plans for the $810 million redevelopment of ANZ Stadium.
the Herald can reveal the NRL is investigating potential ownership possibilities that could arise.

The governing body currently doesn’t own a single asset, a shortcoming that has been exposed as the code responds to the financial fallout from the COVID-19 outbreak. The AFL bought Marvel Stadium in 2016, an acquisition that helped to secure a $600 million line of credit from Australian banks to provide emergency funds during the lockdown. The NRL had to go offshore after Australian lenders deemed the code too big a risk given its perilous financial state and absence of assets.

It’s a situation the NRL wants to address to future-proof the game. Preliminary talks have begun with government officials about the game’s infrastructure needs and what would be an acceptable level of investment to justify the original agreement of keeping the grand final in the harbour city for the next 27 years.

The NRL is seeking up to new four stadiums similar in design to Bankwest, but with a reduced capacity of about 20,000 spectators. Officials feel fans are more likely to sign up as members and attend games if they are played in smaller, purpose-built stadiums. It is a major policy shift for the NRL after they originally sought to push clubs towards larger venues in a bid to drive membership.

Currently, Cronulla is the only club that owns its own stadium.

In his first press conference as ARLC chairman, Peter V’landys spoke about his desire to upgrade suburban grounds to acknowledge the tribal nature of the sport. If successful in lobbying the government to that end, head office will consider whether full or part ownership of some of the venues could provide long-term benefits for the code.

It would be a bold direction for an organisation that has been exposed for years of overspending and mismanagement during the coronavirus crisis. After spending $500,000 a day to run its competition, the NRL is seeking to dramatically cut costs and explore new revenue streams.

Having just renegotiated its broadcast deal, the ARLC is expected to sign off on emergency funding to the 16 clubs later this week totalling about $100 million - $40 million more than was originally allocated.

If they did a Bankwest in Manly...who else would use it?

WSW is aimed at Para, Tigers, WSW... Souths and Dogs can play there too. The odd Waratahs game if they want to dally in the western front.

If they did one South of Sydney...fine...Saints, Sharks, Sydney FC, even the odd Rabbitohs game.

SFS...Sydney FC, Roosters, Waratahs, maybe Souths or Saints.

If they upgraded Campbelltown...Tigers, maybe Bulldogs, new A League team. Same for a Liverpool. Then they might get the odd Saints and Souths game there.

I just can't see what value giving a Stadium to Manly would bring in.

Lol, sht there must be a money tree at end of Vlandys garden, all the things the NRL is going to do on less money lol. If they cant borrow money to get through COVID how are they goign to borrow it to buy a $200million stadium?

It would make sense to own Bankwest or Allianz but owning a stadium that hosts 4-10 games a year isnt the best business decision. You'd want at least 2-3 tenants to make it worthwhile, especially with a small capacity, to cover maintenance, depreciation etc. Id have thought.
No point in owning money losing assets just in case they need to borrow money when the next once in a lifetime disaster hits.

Why was Kogarah kept as an oval during the upgrades over the last 10 - 15 years?

The local council has always seen it as a community ground for local school sports carnival events etc...., as well as for professional sports. It's never been solely the Dragons ground.

Unless they could strike a deal to eventually own one of the big stadiums in Sydney, Brisbane, or even Melbourne, then it'd be a better investment to buy a stadium in one of the smaller cities.

It'd be cheaper, they'd own the premiere rectangular stadium in that city, if they picked the right city then they'd have multiple tenants and competitors paying them to play, etc, etc.

It'd unironically be a better investment to own the best rectangular stadium somewhere like Canberra, Newcastle, or maybe even Auckland, than to own one of the small suburban stadiums in Sydney where there are at least 3 or 4 better stadiums.

Be funny if they bought HBF park and got rent from Western Force back in an Australian comp lol.
IF they ever get round to a team in Perth it wouldn't actually be a bad investment, three tenants (if the two current survive and NRL comes to town) plus plenty of concerts held there.

Is that the old Perth Oval?

I wasn't thinking about areas outside of the NRL, but yeah that's another better option than a suburban stadium in Sydney.

Put the entire NRL on JobKeeper and then when the Gov announces the new construction grants tomorrow apply for all 4 new boutique stadiums and have an “all NRL player workforce” complete the work.

Who said PVL was a visionary.
