I also thought Trent Hodkinson was going to be a bit of an Andrew Johns. Haha.

You weren’t the only one. I remember watching him play a trial match years ago up in Gosford. He was playing up a level in Reserve Grade and played very well against much more experienced players. Thought he was going to be a good one for us. He ended up having a pretty decent career, plenty of FG and got to play Origin...just not for us.

You are right, he had a very respectable career considering that leg injury he had which I think robbed him of his best asset which was some Johns like acceleration.

Interesting , some junior leagues are circulating start dates for this season for a shortened comp, has this been the case in the Parra junior district ?

^^^

In relation to the nine competitions cancelled by the NSWRL Board on 27 March, the Board has today determined that no premiers and no player of the series awards will be declared for any of those competitions for 2020. This applies to the following:

  • Major competitions: Canterbury Cup NSW, Jersey Flegg Cup, Women’s Country Championships and Men’s Under 23s Country Championships
  • Junior Representative competitions: SG Ball Cup, Tarsha Gale Cup, Harold Matthews Cup, Andrew Johns Cup and Laurie Daley Cup.

I believe the panthers didn’t release start dates either, they just released what the junior comps structure wouId be depending on potential start dates.

And it looks like they have go back to the drawing board as the 3 dates they were looking at do not align with the NSWRL start date of 18 July.

ROOKIE RABBIT GETS NOD
Unheralded NRL rookie Troy Dargan is in line to take Cody Walker’s place following the decision of the NRL integrity unit to suspend the star South Sydney playmaker.

Walker will miss two rounds of football for his ‘karate-kick’ involvement in a street fight in his hometown of Casino last December that followed a family funeral.

The Daily Telegraph understands that little known former Parramatta junior Dargan has been preparing to make his first grade debut if called on.

Dargan is a former Australian Schoolboy who also spent time in the Brisbane system before moving to the Rabbitohs this year.

From memory when at Parramatta playing Presidents Cup he carried the team. He was injured in a game at Parramatta Stadium and the team fell apart and hardly won another game. He never played for Parramatta again.

In 2017 when he got injured in the semi-final against the sharks?

Stupid to allow a club to hoard so many players. Is Wenty really the only option for all these kids?

no but kids (and parents) want to play division 1 and in a side that is a chance to win the comp.

Additionally I suspect Wenty have a financial advantage over other clubs due to their Licensed club. For example in my sons comp, one club with a substantial licensed club (only a couple of clubs have this advantage) was able to offer cheap rego like $50 along with club gear while other clubs without backing charge $120-$150 without much gear.

It also comes down to the comp correctly applying the NSWRL player transfer rules.

The Rouse Hill Rhinos and Hills District Bulls have as many teams as Wenty, Cabramatta not many less. Surprise is that Mounties don't have the numbers expected.

Wenty has historically been stronger in senior and older age levels, it has been the lure of pathways to NRL through RMC and Reserve grade has been a big attraction the last 6/7 years.

This is a season where I would like to see High school football step up and take over club junior football. Clubs have traditionally developed young footballers into the dopes we see today in the NRL level.

I doubt the government is going to pay for schools to run junior footy . You do realise that clubs take a huge amount of volunteer hours to be run.

Additionally NRL clubs don’t play a huge role in running junior footy (they provide a bit of assistance but not much), its really just their rep teams is where they get involved.

Also not all schools will have the players to field sides so kids will miss out.

Well that's dumb. NRL clubs have recruiters for their NRL pathways. I suppose if you've got the talent for the NRL (or at least the junior rep teams) you're better off in a strong club side. But that doesn't apply to the kids playing in Wenty's under 14 division 5 team.

I heard from a former NRL player who captain his club, play origin and represented Australia, the best junior memories he had was winning a junior division 2 GF ......

While Kane Evans recently said in an interview he played lower divisions at 16.

Interestingly I have seen a few players recently only make rep footy at 18, in SG ball or 19 in 20’s. Probably the age when size starts to average out ...
