It means slowing social change to a slow creep, forcing ideas to prove themselves before they are taken to their absurd ends. Everyone knows modern conservatives are more progressive than progressives of 100 years ago. It's about the rate of change.

Germany and UK are governedby conservatives yet are progressive compared to AU and USA. USA are moving towards evangelactivism. Bat shit crazy they are.

Globalisation and technology have created a genuine two speed economy in the US, with parallel societies. The people being left behind are clinging to all they have left (identity), and using politics to do it. The elites are using media and technology to slowly crush them and their identity. Nowhere else really has these problems. We have neither the media nor tech industries that enable this sort of schism. We don't have an urban coastal elite and a towny underclass because nearly everyone lives in cities on the coast.

Sure, I think everyone knows what conservatism is and those who choose to drop anchor and resist change do so for their own reasons. The two conservative governments that I pointed out UK and Germany embrace climate change for what it is. Their attitude towards the science is no different to their attitude towards breast cancer or the hole in the ozone.

The nuance here is that both these countries have minimal mining interests domestically. Conversely AU and USA do have significant domestic mining activity. So our respective conservatism (with respect to climate change) is based on the sustainability of the fossil fuel industry. So much so that they seed falsehoods and mock the very science that they would normally accept without question. Fibs based on self interests.

So conservatives cling to their antiquated ways through BS delay and diversion. Rarely is progress defeated and never implemented, it’s an inevitable fact of life for the conservatives that they eventually roll over. Hence why they are a bunch of negative Nancy’s perpetually pining for past, never happy with the present.
