3.8m nationally including regionals.Biggest audience since 2016. Record audience in Melbourne (no surprise)

That’s why they’ve signed a 5 year deal with hardly any reduction on last deal ($146mill v $150mill).i wonder if our Revised deal with Ch9 is similar? Of course we don’t know as Vlandys refuses to tell us.

Comparing the last few years (metro)

Syd Bri Mel Adl Per
848k 492k 608k 75k 80k 2.1m 20’

832k 534k 320k 87k 93k 1.86m 19’

895k 488k 551k 88k 100k 2.12m18’

Sydney has stayed pretty consistent.
Melbournes ratings this year are huge, obviously it helps when the storm are in the gf.
Brisbane’s ratings are down this year for obvious reasons, but still consistent. It’s interesting to see how Melbourne have beaten Bris twice in the last 3 years.
Perth & Adelaide are going down each year.

18 is the better comparison, great to see 50k more in Melbourne, making up the 50k less in Sydney

Adl and Perth aren't really surprising as it gets more and more obvious the nrl admin don't care about them unfortunately

Im guessing those numbers don't include 9now or nrl.com streaming?

he did tell us. He invited everyone to a zoom meeting which had the pass word “noperthreds” and everyone turned up.

Yea, I’m pretty sure these don’t include streaming.

I heard on a podcast recently from an ABC journo who wrote a book on the Storm, Adelaide and Perth are not necessary to gain national sponsors.

Listen from 37min:
https://anchor.fm/chasingkangaroos/episodes/88--Storm-Cloud-with-Paul-Kennedy-ekmiu5

I guess that is the reasoning behind no desire to drive the game into Perth and Adelaide.

Thanks to The Wookie for all the stats.

I think if the NRL are serious about becoming a better product nationally, even if that means no national footprint, it needs to begin engaging fans in those states. Because it's clear the ratings won't challenge the AFL's until they do.

IMO the NRL isn't doing poorly given the current national footprint, and things like Origin in Perth/Adelaide will help. But it will take a club side years to grow much like the Storm have in those markets and there is no time to be wasted.

I heard Gerard Whateley on SEN this morning saying the AFL "smashed" the NRL GF ratings.

Cracking viewing numbers in Melbourne. Nearly as many people watched the NRL GF in Perth on FTA as the AFL GF, that's a win for me!

The difference between Sydney and Melbourne for the respective GF's is stark, even accounting for 2 clubs v 1 in it. 848k to 1.58mill! Vlandys needs to get more Sydney people interested in it!

Penrith are probably one of the least popular or smaller clubs in Sydney mainly because they don't have the history of success or traditions of generational support that clubs like Saints, Souths, Tigers etc have.

Once I agree with you.
If a South Sydney or Tigers or Dragons side had played the Storm the numbers would have been higher.

Having the novelty of the AFL G/F in Brisbane ,after a year where the Lions were doing so well on the field and the Broncos playing like they were in the knackery, the numbers were slightly up and overall as expected.

AFL generally beat us in G/Fs regardless.
