Then a huge signing is just around the corner for us - a quality 5/8.

Or O'Brien will end up like Nathan Brown did.
yep, he got a pass mark this year due to the weird year it was. Finishing 7th was the minimum of my expectation.

What AOB does around our halves will define his time at the Knights and will ultimately decide how long he remains coach. He's been given a great roster and now comes the hard decisions expected from a head coach.

Won’t Green be unavailable for half the season recovering from his acl?

Yep. Surely Green is not our big 5/8 signing.

O'Brien is aiming to secure a spot in the bottom eight if that's the plan. 34 yr old back from an ACL to partner Pearce.

What round would Green be available? 8 to 10??? Later??

Surely we can do better than that.

Decent interview if you can sit through 90 minutes of Finchy stumbling over his words. AOB mentions Victor Radley was at his place for breakfast recently, how long until Radley to the Knights is the new rumour?

Angus Crighton may need to be moved on if the Roosters are to sign that Boom 18yr old, i would hope we would be in for him.
That's another bloke that would be good!

Any good edge backrower or ball playing lock would be handy, after a genuine 5/8th of course.

Finchie interview with AOB.

He loves Pearce so I don't think he's going anywhere.

Finch sounded like he did a very large rack in the AOB bathroom prior to recording.- totally wired

I wouldnt expect AOB to make his full thoughts known to the public. If fans can see the Pearce writing on the wall then he most certainly can. Pearce is still of use to the team, just not at 1 million a season and not without another half next to him who can steer us to victory.

Benji Marshall negotiating with North Queensland Cowboys

The Cowboys are closing in on the signature of Benji Marshall - the playmaking whiz who broke North Queensland’s hearts in the 2005 grand final.

The Courier-Mail can reveal new Cowboys coach Todd Payten is in negotiations with Marshall, armed with a one-year, $150,000 contract in the hope of luring the 324-game Tigers legend to Townsville.

Before the arrival of Payten, the Cowboys told rookie playmaker Jake Clifford he was free to negotiate with rival clubs and his departure could open the door for Marshall to join Michael Morgan and Scott Drinkwater in the halves.

Clifford is contracted to the Cowboys until the end of next year but is tipped to join Newcastle in the coming weeks after fielding interest from the Knights.

Marshall was the architect of Wests Tigers’ fairytale 2005 premiership win, famously producing the magical flick pass which inspired his side’s 30-16 grand-final defeat of the Cowboys.

Now, 15 years later, the 35-year-old veteran, unwanted by the Tigers for next season, could join the Cowboys club he once tormented.

Payten, Marshall’s Tigers teammate in the 2005 decider, is a huge fan of the former New Zealand Test captain and believes his experience, leadership and playmaking know-how could provide support for Morgan and Drinkwater.

It is understood Marshall is keen to sign with the Cowboys, but one possible impediment is his lucrative media contract with Fox Sports in Sydney, which could be jeopardised if he moves to Townsville.

But the Cowboys remain confident they will get their man and are hopeful of striking a 12-month deal with Marshall within the week.

Despite his advancing years, Marshall has exhibited some sublime touches in the past two seasons and says he is reading a game better now than he did in his embryonic years as a flashy playmaker.

The Cowboys are desperate to hit back after three consecutive bottom-four finishes and believe Marshall can help Morgan bring some composure and option-taking class to North Queensland’s scrumbase.

Payten has spoken to Clifford about remaining at the club to potentially learn from Marshall, but it is understood the 22-year-old is ready for a change.

Clifford has shown some promise in recent years but some Cowboys insiders do not believe he can take the club to a premiership.

Marshall, who made his NRL debut in 2003, last month revealed he was not ready to retire after being shown the door by the Tigers.

Apparently Sione could be off to St Helens and Moga is off To Souths

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/s...s/news-story/4b408fc80f76fc9dfd6e5e24687a166a

Newcastle’s Sione Mata’utia is expected to take up a long-term contract in England which paves the way for the Knights to step up its pursuit of North Queensland’s Jake Clifford.

Mata’utia is close to agreeing to a deal to link up with former Knights coach Kristian Woolf at St Helens which would end his seven-year stint at the club.

A one-time captain of the Knights, Mata’utia is just 24 despite already playing 124 top-grade games.

He is the youngest player to represent the Kangaroos after making his Test debut at 18 and 129 days after just seven NRL matches.

Mata’utia played his first finals game this year.

The Knights are keen on signing Clifford for 2022, but will now be able to accommodate the Cowboys playmaker for next season. North Queensland will not release Clifford until it finds a steady replacement to work as an understudy to Michael Morgan and Scott Drinkwater.

Morgan played just six NRL games this season with his shoulder problems an ongoing concern.

Wests Tigers veteran Benji Marshallis the preferred option but those close to Marshall say he is reluctant to move to Townsville.

The Cowboys want Marshall and have reached out to his management. Marshall has a close relationship with new Cowboys coach Todd Payten, having won a premiership together at the Tigers in 2005. Discussions have also taken place with the Sharks although they do not have the cap space to accommodate Marshall.

MOGA ON THE MOVE

Tautau Moga will reunite with Wayne Bennett at Souths next year with the centre agreeing to join the Rabbitohs.

Moga will play for his fifth NRL club since debuting for the Roosters in 2012. He produced his best season during a one year stint under Bennett at Brisbane in 2017 before he joined the Knights in 2018.

Injuries restricted Moga to just 73 matches in nine seasons, including only 14 games for Knights in three years. He played just four this year.

Moga has ruptured the ACL in his right knee three times and his left knee once.

The Rabbitohs will officially announce James Roberts’ exit next week
