@I'm a loser baby...

Have a read of this story re Fox's Tucker Carlson being sued for libel / defamation.

https://www.npr.org/2020/09/29/9177...s-tucker-carlson-tells-you-so-say-fox-s-lawye

The gist is that basically Carlson's claims were not libellous because a reasonable person wouldn't believe the claims he was making were factual, because well, why would any reasonable person believe Tucker Carlson?
I'm not sure those claims would be viewed by courts in the same way as the Biden ones but I'm no expert either. It's a strange one though. You could say the lawyers kicked an own goal there but then I doubt it will change many people's opinion.

331 million people and these are the best 2 they can come up with

mind boggling
'Best'? The best people anywhere aren't in politics. There are far too many other career options, especially for the best people.

Remember the self righteous, nosy gossiping merkins in high school? They're the ones who get into politics. Or at least, they're the ones who go a long way. The status optimisers with zero talent for anything else.

Well like any political commentator or other 'analyst' who conducts analysis for a public audience, he is essentially part of the entertainment industry.

There' a parallel there, I mean Giuliani's a gibbering idiot, like who's gonna believe that, certainly no reasonable person would without seeing the actual evidence..........

I think it would convince some reasonable people. There'd be plenty of people who don't really follow politics but remember he was mayor of New York during 9/11 and was well thought of then. And with a claim that specific, and believing (rightly or wrongly) that no one would dare make such claims without evidence, and would face serious consequences for doing so if they couldn't back it up, I'm sure more than a few would think it's probably true.

Do you think no reasonable merkin believes what Tucker Carlson has to say?

No, I'm sure they do. But it's just one case.

It's an example of an actual interpretation of the law.

And thus can be used as a precedent, just as not completely dissimilar rulings were used in that case.

Now I get that what you say makes some sense, but hey. Reality is.

I understand that but I'm not convinced it sheds a great deal of light on reality.
