I genuinely do not think all is well in Pantherland.

Take a step back and see it unfolding (In no real order)

- Barrett signs with the Bulldogs.
- Burton immediately linked to the Bulldogs
- We drop Naden, weeks prior he was linked to the Storm.
- We lose the GF
- Tamou is not re-signed.
- Whare told to leave
- Mansour gets told he's not wanted. Media all over it.
- Crighton gets a new manager and then its uncertain we will re-sign him.

I look at the above and think to myself that there's something seriously wrong and there's a lot of destabilising factors and we're going to end up with egg on our faces.

I could be completely wrong but GF sides should be able to retain their juniors, re-sign their captain and manage the exits of players better than this.

My left field opinion is that Barrett had a bigger influence on the side than we may think. He leaves, all of a sudden the chips are down.

Maybe I am clutching at straws.

Barrett had a massive influence on the squad. Very popular and he made big difference this year. Not just attack. He regularly gave guys a rev up if they had a bad game or stuffed up. Always kept them thinking on how to approach different circumstances on the field.
He suggested Yeo should be moved to lock and ball play a little.
His loss will be massive.

It’s just the salary cap, nothing more nothing less.

I can’t put it down to just the salary cap doing it’s job. There are mitigating factors which sway players to stay on. Culture, team mates, successes, coaching etc.

We have been pillaged before for our juniors, we’ve lost good players, missed out on marquee signings etc but it seems we don’t even get a second bite at the cherry, we made the GF and all of a sudden we’re carrying out a fire sale

Very valid points.
Time will tell.

Should've just made him coach with Ivan being an overseer.

Most of it is just media talk. Very few quotes from those involved it is just what the managers do

As for retaining players. It is just a crazy time has there ever been 5 coaches sacked in the one season? All those sides are looking to bring in talent. Throw in GC and WT that have struggled for a few seasons.

That is 7 sides there all looking to buy. Throw in 3 guys making SOO squad in contract years and this is the result.

If they go they go. I wouldnt be releasing anyone early. Have a red hot crack at the comp in 21, anyone who can help with that stays put next year.

Not much you can do. The core of the side will be locked up if Desperate clubs want to take punts on unproven guys then go for it.

41 coaches have left or been sacked since 2011.
Usually 3 or 4 get the sack each year.
The worse year was 2014.
7 coaches were either sacked or changed clubs.
Mick Potter (Tigers)
John Cartwright (Titans)
Wayne Bennett (Knights)
Anthony Griffin (Broncos)
Peter Sharp (Sharks)
Steve Price (Dragons)
Matthew Elliott (Warriors)

2016 was an oddity, only one. Andrew McFadden.

Nah mate. The Burtons had a huge weekend.
Breakfast in the Shire, bought a new car in Parra, a tour of Belmore, flew to the G.C for swim, dinner in Canberra, clubbing in Melbourne.... and that was just Friday.
Well he could have swung by my house and did the lawns sounds like he had a bit of time spare

Would be interesting to see the player turnover following that. Teams usually go for the quick fix with mixed results

Yeah, it's just business. All I'm saying is if any of them choose to go elsewhere then they can go in 2022. Next year they stay & help win a comp.

I don’t agree at all.

The squad in 2020 was special, still is.

Trent Barrett played his part no doubt but we had a special group of players who gelled at the right time and gave us a special season.

As often happens given the salary cap restrictions we are now faced with some tough decisions, which given 2019 no one could have reasonably foresaw.

Suggestions there are issues, unrest or whatever negatives you can think off are way off the mark and it is disappointing anyone could form such a view.

Our best season since 2003 and 2004 (even though we didn’t make the GF) there is no need to tarnish what we achieved.

Cleary needs a big game tonight or he will be mentally f**ked next year after the GF Choke and a terrible origin series

I could see him having a horror year being washed up at 24 and Penrith missing the eight

I'm a positive person by nature. I'm thinking 2021 has the potential to be as good as 2020 and hopefully a bit better.

Barrett obviously did good work when here at the Panthers. I'll trust in the powers that be that good support staffs with continue to enhance the players development.

More than a good chance some players may chose to sign elsewhere........That's there choice.

Players can and do come out of the woodwork too.

Frankly I am flabbergasted of your post.

Two weeks ago we competed against the Storm in the GF and now we are in a whole world of hurt and negativity.

Really disappointing you feel this way after such a great season and hopefully much to look forward to in 2021 regardless of who stays and who goes.

Im sorry but I don’t get your negativity at all.

2021 has to be the yr we go 1 better .Dont let anyone go early if some players sign elsewhere for 22 fine but no early releases.We.have the squad to go all the way next yr and enough depth to cover all injuries. No barrett controlling attack is a bit of a concern lets see how ivan goes without his right hand man.Cleary needs to work on his goal kicking and do things at pace this slow motion show and give pisses me off.

Im not saying we didn’t have a great season. I’m just a little more concerned that we’ve gone from building toward 2020, achieving in 2020 to stripping layers off the club and thinking it’ll all be fine in 2021.

It might be fine but I can see small cracks in the processes unfolding.
