Lol X1,000,000.
If you could have found a bookie willing to take a bet on MR AFL wonderful PR finding a negative or some conspiracy theory in the report you could have made a killing .
Like the sun coming up in the East it's a sure bet .
We came through Covid far better than expected .
Better than the AFl
Yet all you do is whinge & whine .

what do you think about the nrl burying the real media revenue and hiding it in a new line item Phil?

it looks like the NRL payed off the 100m dollar loan from broadcasters. No mnetion of loan in 2020 budget papers, while a refence is in 2019. So the NRL payed back loan in 2018 and 2019 $50m odd with some kid of interest in 'two payments' or defered revenue.

Here is the 2019 budget statement about the advance/loan which seems to be payed off.

Consolidated total liabilities decreased by $8.1m to $151.2m due to:
» A decrease in other current payables of $8.0m due primarily to a decrease in deferred revenue as a result of part of the $100.0m advance payment received from the broadcasters in financial years recognised as income. The accompanying notes form an integral part of this Statement of Consolidated Financial Position.

page 140 141 annual report 2019
Notice that advance payment was $100 million. All 'payed' off

I dont think the NRL have paid this off at all. Note that while the note isnt included this year - a lot of notes arent - the "other payables" current liabilities figure hasnt changed substantially - dropping 5m on last year.

AFL--The league spent a huge $60m from its savings fund to “mitigate losses throughout the AFL industry” and its borrowings went up about $100m to $190m, including the recognition of lease liabilities and the drawing down of loan facilities to help various clubs.

Well done NRL, now we don't have loans unlike AFL.

AFL loans and borrowings went from 95m to 113m. (about 50m of this is the league guaranteeing borrowings for clubs and state bodies) The rest of the increase is a lease liability - these have only been mandated to be noted as such since july 2019 and are not loans.

it wasn’t a loan, it was an advancement payment of part of the Ch9 tv deal and each annual amount paid was reduced accordingly. Clubs were supposed to pay back the amount they got out of the advanced paymnet to the nrl each year.

So two media companies advance one hundred million dollars ( cash) and we ( NRL) are paying them back 5m one year 8m anther year, when do you think they will be able to pay it back, say 2032 and this rate. What better way to pay back broadcasters take less in the media contract till all payed back.

Makes sense. We arent privy to that reasoning though.

My understanding is it wasn’t a loan, it was an advanced payment. That means it doesn’t get paid back, it is coming off the annual amount being paid by the media partners a huge year. How it has been adjusted based in the renegotiations is unclear as everything g is being kept hush hush.

So thats a drop of 21.7% in TV revenue

For a reduction of 15.7% in games

cant say, it’s been buried in a new line item with other revenue areas so impossible to do a direct comparison. It’s nrl’s way of not being held accountable by its fans for the deal Vlandys signed.

Storm Profit is a sensational result for them... even given Govt support.

Maybe they should relocate permanently to the Sunshine Coast....

their membership revenue is outstanding, especially in a year when they weren’t at home! The bottom line was very much helped out by the significant covid grants they were able to get from the vic govt. it would be interesting to see their parent company accounts.

Interesting Parra had low merch against the Cows given their good form, Bank West and a general feeling they're on the up. Are the Blue and Gold Army just not sure yet and keeping their powder dry?
