Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar, the head coach, bowling coach and fielding coach of the Indian team respectively, have returned positive RT-PCR tests for Covid-19 on Sunday. This will prevent them from travelling to Manchester for the fifth and final Test of India's tour of England, starting September 10 at Old Trafford.

The development also forced the BCCI medical team to ask the rest of the Indian squad - including the playing XI at The Oval - to take RT-PCR tests on Monday morning, with all players testing negative and thus remaining available for the final Test at Old Trafford starting Friday.*

Nitin Patel, the team physiotherapist who, along with Arun and Sridhar, was identified as Shastri's immediate contact and was forced to isolate on Saturday after Shastri returned a positive test, is understood to have returned a negative RT-PCR test.

As per UK government rules, those who return positive RT-PCR tests have to isolate for ten days and return two negative tests, so Shastri, Arun and Sridhar will have to stay on in London even as the series concludes in Manchester.

Manchester Test called off over Covid-19 fears

"Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team," the ECB said in a statement

The fifth and final Test in Manchester has been cancelled in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak within the India squad.

The development comes on the back of intense discussions between the BCCI and the ECB after India's assistant physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar returned a positive Covid-19 test on Wednesday.

ESPNcricinfo understands more than one India player had expressed concerns about taking the field in talks between the BCCI and the team management over the last two days. The entire India squad returned negative RT-PCR tests on Thursday, but results of a second round of testing performed on Thursday are still awaited.

Starting to come out that some of the Indian players wanted to leave to be back in time for the start of the IPL recommending.

I’m sure that had nothing to do with it.

Aren't the Poms well over 80% for Vacs?? Haven't kept up to date with whats doing over there.
Take a quizz at the current Brit infection rates. People totally unrestricted while upwards of 40K infected, 100 dying daily. Seems to me Boris let the UK out of prison prematurely. Gladys is talking of doing same here in my state when we reach 70% fully vaxed. Federally they are saying make our Day of Freedom after 80% fully vaxed.

BCCI is directing this as any form of quarantine of its players will jeopardize its IPL cash cow.

India is currently leading 2-1. So how does the series finish as doubtful they will complete it next year as the word is. That makes little sense.

Shastri being an arrogant f**k will cost the ECB and Lancashire CCC more than A$50 million.

Oh well, just part and parcel of playing India. They do what they want, when they want and everyone else can go f**k themselves.
