Dragons table three-year deal to Moses Suli

Off last nights match I would be more concerned with Campbell Graham’s defence in the last 15 minutes than Suli one poor read in the first half.

I think we also have to take into account the position of our club as no top line centre is going to come without paying overs. Are we paying overs for Suli? Maybe. Is he the next "Puff the Magic Dragon", no, but is he an upgrade to what we have, I think yes.

Suli isn't an "official" signing as yet although I think it's a fait accompli. Lots of if and buts about why Dez is letting him go, but the same could be said of Souths with Sua, or Molo for that matter. I think he does need to increase his defensive involvement, however, if you're not playing regularly, this does have an effect on timing etc, consider also he last played a full game in rd 23, that's 5 games sitting as the reserve, and before that was rd 18 (coincidently V Us) again a further 5 games as a 'reserve'. Important that Dezi never really 'dropped' him.

In saying that about his defense, his season average was 90% tackle efficiency, missing only 9 tackles in his 12 appearances this year. Overall, his tackle efficiency combined at the tigers and manly stands at 90.79%. In comparison Zac's career tackle efficiency is 91.48%.

Suli's defense is not as bad as some make it out to be. Add his power running and he's a specialist left side player, and we have a very good signing once official.

Loaded question that….

The blatant one of course was the defensive howler on his own line under pressure. That alone took the bunnies from a good to an unassailable lead.

The no try for him taking out Reynolds was debatable being disastrous but if you’re running a line knowing you’re not taking the ball, ffs do what you can to avoid the defence who are right in your field of vision, run at the “right shoulder”, or at least look like you are if they are crowded in. Dont just steamroll your way into em like he did. He’s a big guy and can’t expect him to step like Fred Astaire but In the modern game that’s only going put any try scored under a huge question mark. Debatable is was all him, but it cost em a try.

Nothing else outrageous but that’s a collective -10 point result when there was still a contest.

Anything he did that was great in the first half? Or even good? no drops balls perhaps..

Second half he racked up some meters in hit ups… and when the bunnies had the game sewn up he was put through a few holes which led to tries. further improving his “metres stats”So without the pressure, he did ok enough.

Disastrous?

Might have been a strong term to use and plenty have played worse. But it was far from great. People can look at that last ten minutes for positives, good for them.

Personally it was a display that doesn’t change my mind that a 3 year contract for him is anything but a gamble.

All good Emperor. Nothing hard felt, all healthy discussion on the forums. I didn’t believe i’d “gone off early” but did put that post up at halftime…

I also switched from beer to wine at the halftime break mate. Wasn’t bladdered but was a good night in…

The finals games have overall been great to watch and after taking a break from watching I have fallen back in love with the game. But ffs miss the Dragons being involved, I’m sure we all do.

Switching from beer to wine is fine. Not the other way around. A good friend of mine once said going from grain to grape was ok. Never go grape to grain.

I'd say it is a toss-up and the players who perform best in the off-season will gain selection. Ramsey, the Feagai brothers, Favalawa, will all be in contention.

Centers
Suli, Lomax, Bird and Max Feagai will all be in contention. Lomax, and Suili are our best combination. But Bird and Max Feagai will not be far behind.

Halves
I'd say a Bird/Hunt or Bird/Sullivan halves combination is on the cards. It will all depend on how Hunt and Sullivan go in the off-season.

I'd say the most likely backline will be:

1. Sloan
2. Ramsey
3. Suli
4. Lomax
5. Ravalawa
6. Bird
7. Hunt

9. Sullivan
14. Amone

I would rather Sullivan or Hunt to 9 with the other going to 7 and Amone on the bench at 14.

Not a bad back line to start the season with and see how it goes. At least those five can give us a good start to our sets and be dangerous close to the line in attack. Ramsey will have to improve markedly to force his way into the team. Suli left some holes in defence last night but his power running and great fend will be handy for us.
Our forward pack is still one of the weakest in the comp.

I also think Kerr will see a lot of reserve grade games in 2022 and that Lawrie will come off the bench. So I'm thinking a top-grade second-row forward or Bird to partner Su'A and the new prop to partner Molo in the run-on side.

So bench could be:
