At this stage we only have Emu and Rodwell and a bunch of rookies.

The Moses clause is for 2024.
It's not even a clause, it's just that the 2024 portion of his contract is a player option. So he's a free agent in November if he wants to be, but if he's happy with the player option he can stay until the end of 2024 (and be a free agent again in November 2023).

Of course it's a clause. Look up what a clause means in a legally binding contract.

Anyway, I'd be trying to extend now because he and Dylan Brown are at the moment the second best halves combination in the competition. A diligent club would extend both of them before November. I'd give Moses $1m a year and Brown $850K with increases based on how much the cap will increase.

In addition we should sign someone like Farnworth and let Sivo go. We don't need him. It would be nice to have him back but I wouldn't be flirting with the idea of Semi returning. He is a risky signing.

I'd possibly be extending Matterson for the right price and signing Nikora from the Sharks and Hethrington from the Dogs. I'd also be inquiring on Savage from the Raiders and Tapine although both are under contract. Means nothing these days if the the players doesn't want to be here.

On Savage: not saying I disagree, but where would you play him?

I have a bad feeling, our team will be disassembled over the next couple of yrs, we are not like the big clubs who don’t lose players, they want to keep, I also believe as stated before, our players prefer the $$$$ as opposed to winning the comp like the top clubs, they don’t have the affinity with Parra, therefore move on, I honestly don’t know why, though?

If we get to Nov 1 with both Moses & Brown able to negotiate with other clubs I would consider that an abject failure by O’Neil and he should be out on his ass.

See whether they both/either get pickd in mid-year rep squads, and then offer to extend accordingly, along with an advance deadline of advising the club whether they are taking up their player options (so the club knows what they're doing, and can plan accordingly).

If we win teh comp, they likely want to stay for a bit... if we choke out in Finals week 1 or 2 (or 3) without getting further again, they probably weren't the answer we were looking for anyway?

Semantics. My point was calling it a clause makes it sound like some bizarre and unique condition he tricked us into. It's just a player option. We also have club and mutual options in the final year of some of our players' contracts.

Get rid of the player options seriously thats a fail by MON to continually allow that to happen.
It's something the club can offer besides cap space in the non-option years. Basically it's a way to give the player something outside the cap (the option, not the money they're paid if they choose to take it up). Likewise a club option is something the player is giving up. In the case of Hodgson it would be to recognise the risk he represents should injury make him unavailable. He at least gets a guaranteed 2023 pay day, with the option for the club to keep him in 2024 if they're satisfied with his value. All these options are potentially good business. They're not something nuffies should be criticising without knowing any of the other details.

And they are clauses too. Everytime a contract is rescinded/changed/acted upon before the expiry date it’s a clause.

Just stick to defending mediocrity you silly merkin.

Ask newcastle fans atm how there feeling about player options being put in contacts. I am sure they are impressed. They have been played for fools in regards to the ponga shitshow from there dumb club management. After being sold Ponga was committed for another 3 years. They weren't told he had clause in his contract he can exercise every season if he chooses.

All it does is create unnecessary distraction.

I have no doubt they are technically clauses. But as I said, calling them clauses stirs up the scapegoaters. "HoW dId We gIvE HiM a ClAuSe fFs O'nEiLl!!!" The terminology is player/club/mutual option. These are common clauses that no merkin refers to as clauses. For example, this page has zero instances of the word clause and ten of the word option: https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/01/27/2022-signings-tracker-official-rosters-for-all-17-nrl-clubs/

If they hadn't given him those options he never would have re-signed. He never would've gone there in the first place without the initial 2022 option. That's how Knights fans need to look at it.

Even if it means overpaying for both players?

Id rather let both players go if we had to pay overs.
