There is zero chance AFL gets $600m a year. TV companies lose money now no chance they pay so much extra
Why would fox pay more for a product which nobody watches on their network ?

their ratings are laughable

like a pimple on the backside of rugby league

You'd have to ask them why they've done it for the past 20 years to get an answer to that one. How Fox keep paying AFL more than NRL despite lower audiences is one of life's great mysteries! NRL has bent over backwards to help Fox out with scheduling, digital media closure, Brisbane2, less FTA games etc etc yet still gets less $'s. Its a mystery for sure.

Numb nuts the afl had more teams and the afl used to get much higher ratings especially in nsw and qld

then their ratings collapsed

good luck to them polishing that turd

lord vlandys will let them do their deal then use it as a benchmark for us with higher ratings

how do you know what the fox ratings in NSW and qlnd are for any sport? Where have you got that info from?
Shame we'll have to wait 6 years for "lord vlandys" (lol) to get anything out of Fox having gifted them 17 teams for no extra money. By then we'll be another possible $500mill in tv revenue behind afl!

There'll only be one person shown up if he renegotiates early again with the same result as this time!
No cash increase ch9, no increase Fox. Awesome outcome from going early.
Meanwhile AFL clawed back their covid losses in 23&24 and now talking up a massive increase from '25.

There is zero chance AFL gets any more next deal. Not sure what extra content they can add
Competitive tension dragged the skynz NRL deal up 50%. I guess they are banking on paramount v fox doing same for them. They are also talking about Tassie introduction and reworking fta coverage to make it more valuable for Fox, especially in WA and SA.

Yeh he’s going to renegotiate for the same money

see why people don’t take you seriously

leave expansion and tv deals to the adults

the narrative surrounding the aflol's next media rights deal is full of inconsistencies & nonsense ..

If Paramount /10 are offering 600 million a year ( widely reported ) then, why are the aflol still even talking to Ch7/foxtel ?
600 mill is in reality silly money & the aflol's reluctance to take it suggests to me there is no offer of this magnitude or in fact ... anything like it .. from Paramount /10, hence the aflol still courting their current broadcast partners ( again widely reported) to up their offers . The offer if it exists at all , from Paramount /10 is most likely in the same range as Ch7/foxtel's so there is no motivation to change partners ( better the devil you know) The silly laughable attempt by the aflol to create bidding tension with a stories about 3 billion offers on the table has failed miserably.
so
where is the bid.
The curr
ent partners have offered something in the vicinity of a CPI increase telling the aflol thats what they believe the rights are worth in their current format.
so its up to about 440 Mill

The aflol are now desperately trying to see what they can change in the format to increase the offers on the table.
removing the guarantee of all games on FTA in WA & SA is worth money to foxtel , no doubt. But any gains there will be lost in Ch 7's offer because they could lose up to 30 million viewers over the life of the deal.
So what does the aflol do , they give Ch 7 regular Thursday nights & night GF's as compensation.
I'd say foxtel will pay 20 mill pa more for the extra WA & SA subscriptions , the only increase in the deal outside of CPI
meaning the total deal will come in at around 460 mill pa.

Thats it
theres nothing else the the aflol can do or offer.

Vlandys now works out what a 9th game is worth to the NRL & wether it is worth introducing team 18 in the life of their next deal 2023-27.
My guess, it will be worth it ( over 50 mill pa) & will happen in 2026.

You mean like this time? yeh he would never do that lol He extended with 9 and fox for no extra money. Only way this deal gets renegotiated is if team 18 comes in before 2028 and someone is willing to up their remaining payments for it.

I respect the balls on the afl. Like you’ve got a product where the ratings are down especially in their so called growth markets

on pay tv they are getting destroyed

yet they still pretend like it’s a premium product that networks are desperate to secure

fake it till you make it

I wonder what other revenue they will include this time in the deal like they included digital last time

except there is either no bid at all from paramount /10 or its no bigger then the one made by the incumbent broadcasters. that can be the only reason the afl are still talking to 7/foxtel.
so theres no bid tension
just like there was none with the NRL's , all the stories about phantom bidders didn't work for us & won't for the aflol either

That is it. The lack of named sources is the giveaway

Australian viewing numbers are really based off a 15 team competition (16 in 2023). Warriors are one of the lowest drawing teams on Fox, but the opposite in NZ which is why Sky pays so much
