If they are lazy and dumb isn’t that on the coach???
Every player has strengths and weaknesses. It's up to the coach to craft the gameplan around them. I think he does it well. We have some low workrate forwards and we cover that by controlling the ball. We also have some dumb players which we accommodate by having a simple gameplan.

According to Dylan Brown, the players didnt execute the game plan in the second half.

Exactly.

Not the they just couldn't put more points on them because they got their shit together in the second half.

We failed to execute the killer blows that were on offer if we executed the same game plan that got us in that position in the first place.

After 9 seasons with a changing roster of not being able to execute the game plan consistently, the coach is to blame. He can only get us to this level. He can't get them to focus for back to back to back victories anymore. He needs to go.

Period.

They weren't shattered in the second half. They were only shattered in the first half, which is why they conceded so many points. Why would you expect them not to sort their shit out at half time? This is a team that had previously conceded 202 points in 18 games (5.6 points per 40 minutes). For them to concede 30 points in half a match was a massive failure on their behalf. It was 13% of the points they had conceded for the entire season. It was an extreme outlier, and not something anyone should've expected to occur in consecutive halves of football. I doubt they'll come close to conceding 30 points again in a full game this year.

Oh pls you're just an embarrassment. They were allow to get back into the contest in the second half because as Dylan said, we didn't execute the game plan.

It was 6-4 in 2md half and they opened us up a few times. They could of had 3 without 3 x origin stars and 12 men.
Let's not sugar coat the 2nd half. But I am going to say we took foot off. We had game won and important games coming. Why go full thrust?

It was both. We weren't as good as we were in the first half and Penrith definitely improved.

Possession evened out significantlly. We didn't see a lot of the ball in the second half.

In NFL once the games pretty much won the sides go into wind down mode. They have no reason to go full thrust and risk I jury or player burn out.
We are going into the pointy end of the season. Shouldn't we follow a similar formula

Agreed, but they improved more then they should have been allowed to because we deteriorated.

That then allows them to wrestle back possession significantly and obviously we get less of it.

Yep asking why we didn't win the second half after having the game won at halftime is no different from boasting you won the second half after getting belted in the first half. The answer is it doesn't matter. These guys are just there to win. Teams concede big scores because they gave up, not because the opposition decided to go on with it. Teams usually give up when they are outclassed. Not many teams are outclassed by us, so they don't give up. It's simple.

We beat The Riff by 20 points and the same f**kwits are whinging deluxe because that’s all they’ve got. But - but -but we only scored 4 points in the 2nd half!!!! The game was over at half time you dopey f**king fools. Riff lifted to win back some pride and we eased off because we were up by so much - it happens all the f**king time.

I think alot of our players are footy dumb.
In the modern game there are such massive physical requirements of players that you can't afford not to sign/keep the dumb ones. Pundits even talk about how the 'little man' has been removed from our game. What they mean is natural footballers, who previously mightn't have been able to match up physically. The loss of these players is reflected in the more structured way teams play. Not many Thurstons are left in the NRL. Even Cody Walker couldn't get a start until he was 26 years old.

Our smartest player is probably Gutherson, and we know he is slow (for a fullback) and not especially strong for his size. He also doesn't have an elite kicking game. Moses is fast (and not small - he is six foot tall) and has great technical skill but hasn't shown any great (or even good) ability to read a game. Drown is just a unique physical specimen. Hopefully he can develop his mental and technical skills. Josh Hodgson can't get here quick enough.
