Traffic and transport is a big thing but the train system is getting a lot better, so in 10 to 15 years time a lot of these problems, if not completely overcome, will be alleviated to a certain degree. South Sydney might still be an issue.

Scheduling is the other big one. Play more day games. Cheaper seats/tickets as well.

Most of all, it’s also bent to this idea that a suburban club can only have, or only has, supporters within their own suburban enclaves. In order for other clubs to reach Souths and Parramatta levels they need to actually expand their customer base and look at outside of Cronulla or Manly
That is a massive mind set change that is needed. People often go on about Melbourne AFL clubs all being inner city, but Carlton dont just draw their 100k members from the 30k people who live in Carlton! That's where clubs like the Dragons could be smart, in similar way to Souths have done. Work on the brand and appeal across the city. Moving to a centralised venue certainly helps move that mindset. Its good to see Roosters taking over the lower NS area as another example. Crazy that we say NS is starved of NRL when there is a club and state of the art stadium just 8km away!

You try navigating manly to the sfs on a Thursday or a Friday night in peak hour lmao

or public transport ? Bus or car to Mosman, ferry to circular quay, train to central then light rail to the sfs. Be home midnight

Scheduling is another big one that the NRL needs to grapple control of from TV. Thursday night games should be at places like Newcastle, Wollongong, Cronulla etc where people are living close by. Friday 6pm should be all NZ's, save the Friday night game and the Sunday afternoon games for the block busters that will fill the stadiums. Rival games at SFS and WSS should fill those slots. Build hype around them as events. Let NRL take control of marketing them.
All the revenue the game has now and we still arent seeing any fanbase growth, its a massive failure of the management of the game and clubs imo!

7 at Suncorp in 2023 & 3 Redcliffe & 2 Sunshine coast in 2023 according to their membership packages

I'd say it'll be 10 at Suncorp & one each in the others in 2024

That is what I think unless Rockhampton buys a home game, which means the crowd is irrelevant

Manly, and Penrith (maybe Cronulla) are the only clubs that should have their own stadiums imo. They are far enough out and transport takes so long that its hard to see them moving into the city. That will possibly make them smaller clubs though and that needs to be in consideration to keep them viable. Panthers look to be ok if they keep winning and with the new big stadium coming.

Exactly. The only club where I would say that it actually goes against their best interests to get more support from the inner suburbs is Penrith as they are becoming more and more a pseudo Sydney club and their growth is going to come from the Blue Mountains and other adjacent regions

How did that play out for them? Parties change policies. Up to the nrl to be talking to labor now. But it’s better to get it all in writing before the election so it’s guaranteed

Every public service is striking.

Never side will go to Stadiums as a result, Should just take what they have and get x amount to host the GF

Bit of an out of the box idea but could the NRL use this as a bit if leverage with NSW govt to buy Commbank? We all know NRL needs to build a decent asset base and rather than buying pubs it would make more sense to invest in something that will benefit the game directly. Buy it, rename it Sydney NRL Stadium. Eels, Tigers and Bulldogs to call it home. Finals and tests etc to be played there. Along with WSW for summer and it could provide a good return not to mention the asset value on the books. The Govt could then use the funding to build another stadium for Manly or Sharks and Dragons if they ever saw sense. If AFL can buy Marvel for $200mill why couldn't NRL do same? In 2017 Marvel stadium turned a $5mill profit for AFL.

It was a hotel not a pub

If places want to buy games it should be from Sydney teams who take their away games against the more local club there. ie Manly take a game against the Dolphins or Cowboys to Rockhampton.
If you're a Sydney club you are playing 18 games or so a season in the city as opposed to 12 for out of town clubs.
Id like to see the NRL get strategic and have Sydney clubs agree to play 11 home games and then take one on the road in deals that work well for them financially.

They have a partnership with Central QLD, the plan should include NRL games.

Makes no sense for a Sydney club to do it

Makes no sense when you only have 12 games, and are already committed to three venues, to add another one! They have a pathways partnership, doesn't mean they are trying to build a fanbase there.

Feels like NRL post covid is pushing prices to new levels of greed

Last time I saw this in the 90s with cricket and SOO

It was enough for me to say thats it too pricing to go to thise events and just watch thise events on TV

Feels like RL is heading the same way for people who used to go every weekend. Buying halfway line seats is now out of control

Why would the Govt spend money on a privately owned Endevour field or whatever they call it now?
Because the club and the Govt had come to an agreement to use the ground for other purposes besides the Sharks that the State have usually funded for junior sports etc.

Hopefully that provides you of some knowledge that you obviously haven't possessed of yet.

Centralised stadiums won’t work in Sydney

it’s not Melbourne with zero traffic and ease of access

plus one of the reasons the nswrl was formed was the nswru didn’t want to play games locally.
