The fear of the warriors is what started it

but as other have said they were also worried that with the wages in rugby league in general due to super league they would get raided by the warriors and other nrl clubs

Lol you really are clueless
The Warriors entered the competition in 1995. By that point League had been poaching high profile union players (including several All Blacks) for several years and the re-e try of South Africa into international competition was already straining the amateur rules. The shift to professionalism was already happening by the time the Warriors were a thing so fear of them definitely didn’t start it. It wax a contributing factor at most.

You know there were articles at the time which said it was because of the warriors

lol

obviously with the loss of several all blacks and an nrl team in nz the nzru was panicked into action

I pointed out that it started way before the Warriors. Their pending admission was just one more factor out of many

Yes, I was alive (in my early 20s) and living in NZ at the time. I noticed what was going on

Moves like this will help kill it off. Everyone across 5 Australian Super Rugby just got overlooked for someone who doesn't even play the game. 😳🤣
Great message to send.
If you want to make it big , play NRL.

And yet that's what you are advocating for NZ2. Sign All Blacks and Super Rugby players to "deal a massive blow to NZ rugby"... Great message to send to NZ League players. If you want to "make it big", play Super Rugby.

Like you and all the NZ2 idiots in this thread
The big difference being that NZ2 would be backed up by a behemoth of a competition currently firing on all cylinders and likely to become even more financially powerful come the next TV deal NRL compared to the hindenburg super rugby competition.
