I think you'll find the reason they intentionally make them a tad inaccurate is not so much for IP reasons, but moreso to thwart those dodgy bastards out there that would otherwise take an exact replica, rough it up a bit, get some grass stains on it, ect, and flog it on eBay as, say, Steve Menzies' player-worn jersey in the game he scored 3 tries against Western Suburbs, thus gaining themselves a lot of money on something that's not genuine.

That's my understanding of it all anyway.

I knew of a person that was doing this to Eels retros, getting Ray Price to sign them and selling them as his game worn jerseys.
