Round 6 v GC Titans

While securing a victory is always welcome, we must assess our success with a clear-eyed perspective. The Titans’ defense was alarmingly deficient, at times resembling a reserve-grade outfit with their glaring misreads. Our predictable, sweeping plays, typically limited in their sophistication, proved effective against such a porous defensive line, which speaks volumes about the opposition’s frailties.
Compounding this, our performance was marred by a subpar completion rate of 75%, the lower of the two sides, alongside a troubling 35 missed tackles. We also allowed several soft tries, most notably the one conceded directly from the kickoff, where Fifita carved through our defense with an ease that evoked images of an under-8s side shying away from contact.
Though we’ll gladly accept the two points, tonight’s display was far from inspiring. It offers little to bolster confidence in our prospects for the challenging matches that lie ahead this season.

It’s obvious you’re a glass half empty guy Mr negativity. Just occasionally try & enjoy it when they win.

Our attack has been good all year, but I gotta say our edges look nice, we haven't been able to attack both sides of the field since gaz/cooper days. And 10 linebreaks this game is a great stat. It's a shame about CT, he's been one of our best.

I liked the gameplan of using gutho as a decoy, no doubt hasler coached his players to rush gutho during our sweeping plays and we just cut him out each time. Lovely work.

And it's been said before but how good is the couchman/hamish/egan combo, absolute workhorses.

I'll enjoy the win for sure!

At the risk of being labelled a pessimist (I prefer the term realist) let's analyse a few things.

+The Titans were pretty bad today and were missing Foran & Tino.
+We got the rub of the from the ref not often we can say that but we got a few forward passes let go and Titans player was wrongfully sinbinned (although the game was already won by that point)
+Still not an 80 minute team and the use of Liddle for be is mind boggling.
+Ilias he was slightly better tonight his passing game is ok but still The worst kicking game I've seen from a half.
+Forwards are still average, although I feel Flanno knows this which is why CT & Suli rack up big metres to help take the pressure off them.

Anyway I'll enjoy the win but the biggest question is CAN WE BACK IT UP? It's been 3 seasons THREE SEASONS since we've won 3 consecutive games in a row we absolutely must beat Manly at Brookie otherwise tonight won't count for much.

If Sione stops getting injured (and stays with us), it will be Sione > CT > Feagai/Sloan > Lawson/BRumble

The latter 4 are hard to rank because most of them are projects in some way.. so if the project actually comes off they could take CT's spot.. but right now they are incomplete players.
Grouping Sloan and Feagai together as projects is pretty lame. Feagai has a season or 2 up on Sloan and shown little improvement since that try against Brisbane 2 years ago Sloan is a tryscorer and his defence has improved where Feagai seems to have gotten worse.
Who would concern you more if you were playing the Dragons? Both could finish a try only one could make something of not much. Tonight Sloan did mostly just the former, tho he saved one in defence, but given an inch...

I think we also lose our shape when cook is forced out to centre thru injuries.
Anyway a nice win and a good way to start a weekenf
l was at the ground and didn't really pay attention to the backline structure - but l thought Dylan Egan was in the centres and Val outside him until Egan left the field. l struggled to lock Egan into a position once Lucc came on... l think 13 with Hamish at prop. But don't get me wrong, l thought Egan played well.

Winners are grinners.
Made many errors in possession in the 1st half early on.
Enjoy the win better than losing.
l ride the highs and lows of a game like most... but l have to say l didn't leave the ground thinking we are error riddled. Sure l was fair from a perfect win - but a lot of the drop ball was "WOW if that had of come off it would have been a lovely Try/Break/Play". The intention was good - the execution slightly lacking. I think practice makes those errors fixable. In previous seasons l have said "we are a dumb football at times:. thinking back to then... l can handle a few dropped balls.

Very happy to take the 2 points, a great feeling after the last few weeks.

Best ongoing outcome for me is the young players coming through and getting a chance.

Want to see more of this for our long term success. It is our way forward given our unique circumstances and history.

Plenty of issues to look at as we all know.

Looking to get 3 or 4 wins in a row, that would be a big result and may partly break the jinx we all know doubt feel is there when they play.

Nice to kick off the weekend with the points.
