which ones? Only club comp I can think of would be
rugby union but not sure how Sth Africa clubs are going in the Euro championship?

Super League, Championship & League 1 with Toronto if you want a Rugby League example. Super Rugby back in the South Africa days (+Argentina & Japan). While not as far in one hit NBA & MLB play lots of games and their teams would travel more than any NRL team including regular 5-7 hour flights.

Timezone is just 4 hours difference (but a day behind).

Like I said I doubt it’ll ever happen but the time zone and flight times aren’t complete deal breakers.

I don’t think time zone or flight time completely kill the idea, other competitions have made it work with worse for both. It would need a lot of planning to minimise the impact for sure but doable if the rest was in place, which is a long way from being the case.

Time zone is essentially 4 hours difference, so an 7pm kickoff in Honolulu Friday night fills the Saturday 3pm slot in Australia, 6pm Saturday is 2pm Sunday in Australia etc.
Which sports?

I understand Fri and Sat night just isn't a thing for American Pro sports. So I think those

See above. Team or individual sport lots of professional athletes & sports players would have travel schedules that would put a potential Hawaii NRL team to shame these days.

Plenty of reasons why it probably won’t happen but I don’t think travel & time zone are the deal breakers.

SR was a comp concentrated in three countries, so not the same logistics.

It was also a major sport in all three countries.

English lower tier League had it for what? 2 seasons?

Realistically they are when you consider how minor the sport would be in Hawaiian culture.

A Vegas style weekend would be a great idea though!

SR still involved teams travelling cross-continent and their fans not being able to watch from their home country at ideal teams.

Toronto were around for 4 years total I think including 3 in the lower leagues.

Yeh that’s the kicker, if the NRL was popular in Hawaii the other issues could be made to work IMO, but the main issue is there is next to no presence there.

Agreed, hopefully the NRL or a club picks up the idea of a game there again once the stadium is built. Step 1 in the 100 step Hawaii NRL master plan.

As an entry into the us sports markets it’s brilliant and achievable

It would be the platform for a us tv deal and off that a global tv deal as the sport would have credibility

How old are you ? Because whilst I still have a lot of life left …I don’t think I’m going to live to see Hawaii in the NRL eventuate ..

Even Adelaide will get a team first

Who cares when ?

It can be a legacy for future generations

Taking out Covid ovl will have added four teams in ten years

With him being full time now in rugby league I don’t think they will stop at 20

Nor should they if the teams are sucesful and player depth grows

probably not a great example given its ultimate demise lol. 10 hours is a lot for a team to be travelling every other week.

Would mainland America care about a team in Hawaii? I suspect not. Its telling there is no prof sports club from Hawaii in a mainland USA comp

Will Albo fund it from the Pacific Sports slush fund?
Wouldn’t need it

They are getting the stadium and their economy is decent sized

I’m sure loads of places don’t have nfl teams

That’s the exact point
