I feel sorry for Ilias as a person who seems like a nice genuine young kid and grew up a Dragons fan but I was very skeptical when we signed him and I haven’t seen anything from him so far that has shown me he’s even a passable first grade halfback. One good short ball to Egan for a try Is the only positive thing I’ve seen. Sure it doesn’t help when our front row can’t get us field position but every long kick last week just gifted the Roosters easy field position. At least try to find the grass Lachlan.
Of course there will be those saying that KF should get the same treatment but firstly running out two rookies halves is a gigantic risk. And KF is a more reliable player. Sure he can be very average but he does have the odd good game here and there. There’s more upside to him than Ilias.
Sadly I don’t think changing either half will provide any long term miracles. Willie Mason is still asking where our front rowers are. Until that changes both our halves are on a hiding to nothing.

I hope if the news is true then young Ilias goes back to NSW cup and finds some form and shows us he’s worth another crack. Otherwise probably England beckons for him.

That must remind you of someone that we had on our books for seven long, painful years. Ilias is still learning the fundamentals of a half. Perhaps reserves is the best school room for him for a month or so. He will certainly have a more bigger and willing pack to play behind. But he will be back.
Agree! The koe pack is more willing than the firsts I think

:100: Did our esteemed coach have a good think about who will replace Ilias before wielding the axe. He will want his son no doubt. He and none of the other candidates are any better than Ilias, so Flanno is gonna be wearing egg on face yet again.

‘Bottom line , you don’t know and none of us will until the finish of the game on Saturday night. For the life of me I don’t understand why people death ride the coach. I love the game and the Dragons , I don’t train and watch the players every day as the coach does he has a much better idea than me. I hope he gets it right, I really do.

WE had three from six before last weeks game. A pretty good start to the season. Were send back to earth tho by a hungrier Roosters 17 that has had a shocker start to their season. So now we will be upturning the apple cart with a different halves combo. How is this turmoil expected to keep us winning.

Can't believe Kyle is signed for another 2 and a half years. We are stuck with him until the end of 2027! Who signed off on that bullshit he has done absolutely nothing good for us and what happens if we lose the next couple games does he get scrutinized or will LKT be the scapegoat to ensure Kyle keeps his spot in the team? He better come out and show us all his amazing kicking game and organisation skills this week...

Yes it wasn’t his fault although his kicking game is schoolboy level. No spirals or depth or any variation other than down the fullback or winger’s throat. In saying that the chasing hasn’t been good either so they start their sets on the 30m. Not sure who is better though we have a big problem there. Does LKT kick ? Does Glover kick ? On second thought how come Holmes doesn’t kick?
Why is it so difficult to coach and train for a decent kicking game? It's discussed as though it's some sort of individual talent. Isn't it a coachable skill?

Sounds like your expectations for the team and season were set too high. Adjust and relax... IMO we are currently a high probability 9-15, team and a low possibility 16-17 OR 7-8 team. If things progress well from here, in 2-3 seasons we could be a high probability 5-12, team and a low possibility 13-19 OR 1-4 team.

To progress well... lock up local product that has recently graduated to the NRL team and clearly identify the young juniors of interest. Identify marquee players to target, with a high priority of locking up an above average half and fullback for 7+ years (good halves are hard to develop or find and with two new teams coming into the comp, a club that has their shit sorted and is up or on the ascendency will have a window, extended due to the dilution and back filling of talent).

Knights have secured Brown (looks dumb now, but he's decent, young and has a few seasons experience - not sure how that will play out, but they have contracted a half to bridge the expansion years).

Dolphins should be locking up Katoa past 2030.

Targets (with experience) - Tom Dearden, Sam Walker, Ezra Mam, Luke Metcalf, Cleary, Katoa, Burton, Sexton (I don't rate the two dog halves)

Targets (unproven, so assess who has the most upside) - Atkinson, King-Togia, Glover, Galvin, Sullivan, Humphries, Sanders, Strange, Fainu.

Don't target or spend too much on halves who are 30+

He won't even make it in England, no way.
Glad to see Flannagan looking to the Future, LKT 7, Atkinson 6, Flannagan to 14? Liddle to share with Cook? someone is Moving on I Bet, His Name is Jacob Liddle , not happy about that.

Well we can bitch and moan about our halves but without field position, DCE & Luke Brooks would fail.

What's depressing is looking at the availability of NRL middles end of 2025, 2026 and, god forbid, 2027 - Not to mention two more teams competing in the market.
Our juniors, though promising, are away off and no guarantee

We need a minor miracle. (Payne Haas for 2027)

FLANAGAN IS STARTING TO PISS ME OFF AGAIN!!!! His playing favorites is eroding our attacking potential. Allan, another of his boys and as fast as a drafthorse, takes the vacant wing spot that had to have gone to Finau. JdB benched when we need his leadership and specially defense for the first 40. Not to say Stewart isnt a promising player, but he is still in short pants. Holmes is playing great footy but the other two need to step up big time and show us the leadership they are being paid for..

I sense this correct, liddle will get picked up somewhere else with Kyle at 14 next year. Liddle needs more minutes this year.
Not sure Cook and Liddle on at the same time helps our yardage in the middle.
Should just split the minutes
20 mins cook
20 mins Liddle
Half time
20 mins Liddle
20 mins cook
Then just one interchange unless injuries need a variation

I’m ok with bringing through the young half Glover. True only seen him in highlights package but throws a sharp pass and is a fast halfback.

‘Back in the day’ I think Slippery Morris debuted in 1979? I’m sure against Tigers at Leichardt oval. He replaced an ok half named Kearney. I was at the ground and Slippery‘s speed and zip was fabulous. If I’m wrong with dates ok.

I just love fast halfbacks I guess.

DCE, Jarome Hughes, Mitch Moses, lesser extent Cleary n Reynolds. We won with Sowie who was lightening.
