That’s not on Flanno that’s on him being a painful sook. He left becuse he didn’t want to play on the wing and now he’s playing on the wing.
it was a master stroke putting him there and he has Shane to thank for his origin jersey. But he repaid us by leaving.
Flanno didn't turn Lomax into the star he is right now. He was always going to be special he just didn't fit Flannos plans. He was contracted here and should never have been let go he isn't Hunt he was one of our most promising juniors ever but instead we get an aging Holmes on marquee money for the next 3 years. Not good enough and thats on Flanno. Man managing isn't his strong point obviously

did he not have a deal on the table? I ask that qestion because i don't know the explicit detals but I thougt the deal was done prior to the medical which we all know is a huge oversight on the saints football department.
There is always a deal on the table prior to the medical. And it's contingent on the player passing the medical. In this case he didn't, so the contract offer was withdrawn unsigned. The same thing every other club would have done under the circumstances.

There were some mistakes made by us like early announcement and letting him take part in training but the contract was unsigned and injury was from his Warriors stint. We were slapped with a fine for these minor issues but the real issue was the Warriors cancelling his contract and sending him on his way with a clean bill of health when there was evidence to suggest that he was not fully recovered. They clearly did not look after the player's welfare and they tried to con the Dragons.

Tim Watsford starts at the Dragons on Monday. Any chance he can get off on a high note and make some announcements on some signings that are possibly on hold waiting for his arrival and have now been signed off or a recruitment manager appointment joining asap till his arrival or better still the removal of Ben Haran from any duties to do with the rugby league team? We can only dream.

Flanno did turn Lomax into the star he is now, he was the only coach to have the guts to play him on the wing. Prior to Flannos arrival Lomax was playing dumb footy in the centres under other coaches but they didn’t have the smarts and or guts to put him on the wing. Even boofhead Ryles played him in the centres as that’s where Lomax wanted to play until it was obvious he’s a far far better winger than centre. Holmes was one of Qld’s best last night and is a top class centre with excellent skills. This day and age most footy players are still more than capable into their thirties.
Yes Lomax should never ever have been allowed to leave whilst he still had time to run on his contract.
As far as man management goes no coach wins a comp unless they are good at that.

I think have patience, if we have any signings on the boil, and im sure we probably have atleast 1 lined up before June 30, it would have been organised prior to his commencement.

I think his job (apart from actually doing his job with sponsors/fans/board-meetings/day2day etc) is to find out what needs to be fixed in the backend and get it moving. plus establish some networks, he would be on the phone 24/7... it hurts my head thinking what it would be like to suddenly be the CEO of a huge club in a code you have never worked in.. he will get there.. but take some time. But yes definitely GM and Recruitment Manager are 2 things he will have to sort out between now and 2026.. the sooner the better.. im hoping we dont end up trying to fix our roster in January/February again..

This is exactly the point i was trying to make the other day its all i can put it down to as an incoming CEO i wouldn't want decisions signed off by the current CEO & Football manager until i got into the role key decisions can affect your tenure if they turn out to be the wrong ones.

My recollection is that Lomax lobbied hard for a release before Flanno was appointed.
I thought he had a ‘carrot up his arse’, as they say, especially under Hooks coaching. Flanno correctly telling him he isn’t a good centre but likely to be a good winger just increased his resentment, which was Lomax’s problem to deal with. His emotional partnership also went pear shaped didn’t it. I think it all just became a sad place for him and it was probably wise in the end for him to move on.

I thought he starts 2nd June?

Lomax was being tapped up by Parra as soon as he fell out with Griffin. I heard this from someone who knows him as Parra was chasing him hard for a while. By the time Flanno was there the agreement was more or less set all he had to do was kick stones to get a release and Flanno copped a brunt of that. Parra did the same with Galvin only difference is Bulldogs snooped in and took him after the Eels did all the work.

In the end Flanno put him to wing and Lomax to his credit played extremely well to earn himself the NSW jumper. He could have kicked stones like Galvin and Molo and played the mental health card to get out earlier but did not so credit to Lomax. It shows Lomax actually gives a fu## about the fans unlike Galvin and Molo wanting out asap. It is sad he is gone but it would never have got that way if Saints did not hire Gus's favourite coach Griffin who he hired at Penrith to replace Cleary...lol. That was the biggest screw up in the last 10 years for me and has caused the most damage retention wise. Worse than Mary or Price. I truly believe that if Young or Hornby got the job instead or Griffin at the time, Lomax would still be a dragon. Dragons actually wanted Flanno before Griffin but the NRL blocked them from getting him so the settled for useless Griffin.

Wramsy will be our long term fullback. Let's hope he is again ready in 2026. Plenty of young junior fullbacks coming through available for depth.

Hass
We have a great crop of young forwards coming through. So pay overs for Hass to lead them and show them the way.

Halfback
To me it looks like Reed will be our long term halfback. So promote him now so he can learn the trade at NRL level.

Five-Eighth
In 2026 there will be plenty of depth at 6. Atkinson, LKT, and Ah Kee. This season give LKT the JOb, and in 2026 let Atkinson and LKT fitht it out. However, I believe that Ah Kee will eventually secure the NRL five-eighth position at the Dragons.

Haas will never come to us we need to be offering upwards of 1.5 million a season for him to even consider us he would then take far less to play at a club like the Roosters anyway.
