Easts Tigers are too big to not be in the NRL

If it was that easy then any old hedge fund could "takeover" the Broncos.

It's mental that people believe that one of the biggest sporting clubs is Australia can just be bought out so easily.

And it's also mental to think that Easts have access to pathways that the Broncos don't.
I know, arguably the biggest rugby league club in the world needs another club to provide pathways.

Leaving the financing issue to buy the Broncos to one side, would they keep the Broncos brand or Tigers brand? Having a club branded as the Tigers owning another brand called Broncos also playing league doesn’t make sense even if they are not in the same comp. I know this is a much smaller scale, but aren't all clubs under the Panthers Group branded as Panthers once they were acquired?
Given that the Wests Tigers have the Tigers name nailed-down, what about a soft re-brand?

If Brisbane Easts took a controlling stake in the Broncos, they could keep the Broncos name but refresh the logo & change the colours to maroon & ORANGE - maybe keeping yellow just for the odd heritage design.

After all, the Broncos have recently been minimizing the amount of yellow in their jerseys, so that would make a soft re-brand like that a bit easier.

And one way that could be justified is that the Titans use yellow & the Dolphins use gold (not to mention the lemon used in Cowboys jerseys as a slight accent), so orange would be a sunshine colour that's unique to the Broncos... and fits with the new Tigers ownership.

Easts aren't buying the Broncos.

That's like saying IGA is going to buy Woolies
If the NRL wants a stand-alone (ie not in conjunction with Easts) Western corridor/Ipswich team, then Easts have no other "way in" to the NRL but to buy their way in.

All it takes then is Easts motivated enough to buy, and Newscorp/existing shareholders being motivated to sell.

Newscorp doesn't own 100% of the shares, so what if Easts did their darndest to vacuum up all the OTHER shares for a start?

Because Wests Tigers already exist, the Tigers know that any NRL entry for them would require the use of a new mascot (hence Firehawks last time around). The Broncos are a ready made, famous mascot and brand. Makes perfect sense to keep it. There's no way you'd buy the Broncos and rebrand the team.

No thanks, you wouldn't buy an iconic brand and start tinkering with it.

Cause they aren't worth anything like a controlling stake in one of the biggest clubs in the Country.

And if they were, why buy the most expensive one?

Buy some broke club from Sydney or the Titans.

It’s moreso they choose not to I guess. Their approach is to invest through multiple Qld Cup clubs. closest we got was the Aspley Broncos in 2007, and before that the Clydes but for whatever reason we’re happy with the partnership model. Nothing much stopping them buying a Qld Cup team and taking that entire pathways program

Easts are a pokie club with a RL side attached. As long as saps keep pssing away their money gambling they wont really care if they are in the NRl or not.

99.99% wont happen but Easts are rich enough and could buy the Tigers name off Wests Ashfield, it’s up to Wests if they want to part with the name and recognition.
Easts/Brisbane Tigers could buy Balmain and keep the Tigers brand in the NRL

Brisbane is 1/2 the population of Sydney,

SEQ is 3/4 the population of Sydney

Brisbane and SEQ are under represented in the NRL

A) I don't believe they are

And B) I think the NRL own all the trademarks, as wasn't that the issue with the SL war?

The Rl club could close tomorrow and the LC would go on its merry way earning millions.
If the LC closed tomorrow the Rl club would be dead in a short space of time.
Ergo its a LC with a RL club attached to it.
