So, we are in the market for a 'marquee' halfback. To make such a statement, one must be in focus or has had some contact with us (hopefully not BH).
Who could that be?
Reynolds? - Possibly, but unlikely.
Clifford? - hardly 'marquee' imo = no
Katoa? - definitly marquee, but is signed long term to the Phins = unlikely
Moses? - would class as 'marquee' = unlikely
Hawkins? - not 'marquee' at this stage of his tenure = no
Townsend? - not even close to 'marquee' = no
Savala? = too early in nhis career = no
Walker? = not 'marquee' now due to injury = no
DCE? = 'marquee' yes, crown slipping yes = possible for a short stint
Hynes? = mmmm no - too much baggage.
Hughes? = definitely 'marquee' - can't see him leaving The Storm = unlikely
Campbell? = wouldn't class as 'marquee' half = no
Luai? = 'marquee' yes, unhappy at Tiger town yes, = possibly
I've left out Cleary for obvious reasons.
Therefore, if we are chasing, or are in talks with a 'marquee' half, the only 2 that could fit the bill:
DCE - twilight of his career, not the player he once was, but can still control a game and for a modest short term stint wouldn't be too bad, especially if it meant passing on to, say Reed et al.
Luai - Has a weird get out clause in his Tigers contract, given their ladder position and current run of form, it wouldn't surprise if he is the one.
This is just my opinions based solely on what our new CEO has said about chasing a 'marquee' half.
