2025 First coach sacked

Fitzgibbon and O’Brien are dead men walking.

What would you call Des Hasler then?

His contract has an "out" clause for the Titans which, should they not make the finals this year they can terminate his contract early with (IIRC) no payout for Hasler. This was mentioned in one of the papers on the weekend.

It's been quietly leaked to the media (primarily via Paul Kent on his Youtube exile channel) that Des Hasler will "retire" at the end of the season.

I mean, it's pretty clear he has jumped before he was pushed going by how the Tits have performed this year. It's fair to say the first coach sacked title has been won. If anything it's a testament to how unserious the Titans are that they are happy for him to see out the year rather than sack him immediately and make a statement.

Poor Des. Won 2 premierships with a stacked Manly side then fell off a cliff and never recovered. He's only slightly more successful than Ricky.

2008 wasn’t a stacked Manly side, he built it from the gutters, and a lot of players in that squad were often called shit by LU forumers and league fans.

Players who most fans would agree on were class in 2008 - Stewart x2, Watmough, Lyon.

Robertson was never given any props outside of Manly fans, Matai too.

Williams was always called shithouse, Bell was considered past it.

Orford was meh, Ballin and Le strange good hookers but not exactly who people would expect in a stacked team.

Kite was very maligned on LU. King and Perry were considered to be shit.

Hall and Bryant were journeymen.

And Beaver a legendary loveable old man.

Kevvie Walters is now fav
This would be hilarious, although I actually don't wish ill on the Titans.

Kevvie would be a disaster at the Tits. The players would roll over and play dead, knowing they can blame Kevvy and his lack of coaching chops. Exactly as Brisbane did last year.

The Titans need something new, not someone else's recycled old rubbish. They tried it, to be fair, with Garth Brennan probably at the wrong time. They should invest in someone like a Hannay, someone with people skills and a motivator, who might be untested but could be someone to get something out of a pretty stacked roster that is clearly lacking leadership

Seriously, they need to burn that club to the ground and start again (I’ve said this about my own club multiple times, but for the Tits it’s really indicated).

I’ve never been high on Des as a coach for a few reasons but their biggest problem is most players go up there for the “lifestyle” that the club is marketed for rather than because they want to be good players. No coach is ever going to have any real success there until that’s addressed.

Start again on the GC or elsewhere? Because the NRL won't want to lose that market.

I think the GC can be successful but they need to be so careful with the quality of leaders they sign. If you look back at 2010, they had leaders like Luke Bailey, Scott Prince, Friend, Rogers, Laffranchi, Harrison, Meyers around enigmatic guys like Bird, Toopi, Gordon etc and it was a perfect mix. At the moment, they really don't have any apart from Foran, unless RCG is of that ilk. Tino is a beast but I dunno if he's got much of a voice and an influence.

Here's a stat - the halfbacks for all top 4 teams this weekend are Titans rejects. Fogarty, Sexton, Hughes and Boyd.

Lol it's not fair to say that all. Retirement is not being sacked

The GC is a graveyard for sporting teams. It's just not a place that has the support for them. We're better off moving them rather than expanding another team tbh, but the NRL won't

The Titans has averaged 15.3K since returning in 2007, averaged 18K last year and 19.5K the year before, have over 16K worth of paying members and actually do better than a number of clubs when it comes to sponsorship & TV ratings. There is more than enough support for them despite how poorly run they've been over the years.

Gold Coast Titans and Kev Walters has to happen.
To get more seasons of the crafty kevvie coaching again as well as having his docile commentary being removed is a win win….

Obviously not for the Gold Coast, there would be no wins but for the rest of us, it’s try time!!! (Again something the titans will probably not be familiar with.)

Does a Hasler coached side lose a Grand Final up sixteen points with twenty minutes to go?

I'm on board with this. We need to save the Kangaroos.

Hasler for the Australian coaching position. Kevin Walters to the Titans.

Their crowd averages are decent

Doesn’t help the stand facing the camera is mostly empty bc of the sun / ticket prices
