I really like the left side attack of the Cowboys at the moment. Dearden/Nanai/Purdue are a dangerous combo with Drinkwater sometimes slotting in between Dearden and Nanai. Dearden can dummy and go, give a short ball to Nanai, a cut out to Purdue, or a short kick to Purdue who runs an outside/in line towards the ball. Four options to keep the defence guessing. Looks dangerous.

Clifford has a bit of X factor about him too . Is a confidence player with a relatively high ceiling. Would really thrive under a coach with the personal touch like Wayne. Hess and Neame are going well and Lahrs has a lot of potential.

The Bulldogs will target Derby who looks like a good runner of the ball down the track but the ball has a target on it when he runs. A bit of a loose carry. His hands can let him down with the ball in the air so it will be no surprise to see the Bulldogs bombing his wing relentlessly. Nothing that can’t be fixed but the Cowboys make too many errors with the ball as it is.

Three or four years ago the Cowboys had a very strong defence under coach Payten but it has since disappeared. A bit of a mystery really. If they did it before they could do it again. Maybe it’s a fitness issue but who knows? On paper they’re a top 8 side .

The Bulldogs have the best defence week to week but I think the Panthers have the best clutch defence. I think last week’s 2nd half fade-out was a bit of an aberration for the Bulldogs. I still think they’re a lock for the grand final. That defensive display against the Panthers was something else.

If someone with little or no qualifications got parachuted into you workplace and was paid double what you got you would have your nose out of joint. It’s human nature. The green monster. Not good for workplace morale.

Bulldogs by 10.

What kind of X factor are we talking here?

I'm not sure I'd even trade Brad Schneider for Jake Clifford right now.

Why would you move your no. 1 attacking threat in Jason Purdue away from his most dangerous position of centre? He was wasted and totally ineffective when he played five eighth . And leave Derby in the side as well at the expense of Burns? Clifford out is a big loss. Still the most interesting game of the round by far.

There’s no truth to the rumour that Lachie had a shift at Maccas which clashed with the match and wanted to honour his contract.

Bump. Derby is clueless with the ball in the air
