Is there a world where Cleary plays hooker and Moses play halfback? An Immortal did it for Kimmorley...lol
The beauty of Joey was he’s able to adapt his game, I don’t think Cleary could. I think Cleary can work with Moses because Moses won’t just defer to Cleary and he can play on both sides.

Slater has stated publicly several times he has no designs on a club coaching role.
Maybe even he is self aware to recognise he can't handle the slightest bit of push-back?

He would unravel against someone like Sticky.

I know attacking stats aren’t the be all and end all but FMD Nathan Cleary this series
3 games
0 tries
0 line breaks
0 try assists
0 line break assists

Very hard to win a series if you’re halfback is incapable of creating anything in attack
Makes it harder when your team can’t just keep the opponents to 10 points or less every week. This is why I always hate seeing halves get all the credit on teams who win because of defense.

Yep. Penrith won 4 comps off the back of winning the grind, relentless execution and a great system. Obviously Nathan Cleary is an elite halfback at club level but even Sean O’Sullivan and Jack Cogger looked half decent in the side

No one can deny his a good halfback but that’s different to a Johns or Thurston. You only have to look what happens to Penrith when he’s not there, how many other all time greats have their team be near totally unaffected when they’re injured?

Lol Thurston.

Worst player on the field in the 2015 GF.

Then his team made a GF without him.

Wait until you learn about Leo Dynavor.

2018 & 2019 W
2020 Loss to the worst ever QLD team
2021 W
2022 & 2023 NSW team dominated by the Panthers dynasty in full swing and lost
2024 W
2025 lol

NSW should currently be 8 in a row, but as it stands QLD have won 4 of the last 6 series.

How many Queenslanders would even make the Blues side? Munster, Grant, Tino and Carrigan. NSW just don't get Origin

Im not a Penrith fan but Im an admirer of their success. It is a really weird pattern with Cleary and Origin. On a stat and visul performance level, his Origin career is far from great. This is despite playing in an era where NSW arguably have had better squads than Qld (at least on club form).

Nathan Cleary stats this origin series
3 games 0 tries 0 line breaks 0 try assists 0 line break assists

If any other halfback came in and got that statline, they would not play next year. For some reason, he seems to play pretty chance-less footy at this level. While Cleary is a much better club player than Moses or Maloney for example, those two certainly shit on Cleary in terms of success in Origin games.

NSW just looked like they didn’t even want to be there. Everything just seemed off and problems like this would have started from the build up. Daley is the wrong guy for the job.

Queensland play front foot football and it’s flat. The dummy half jumps out and they play over the advantage line. NSW sit deeper. I think Murray and Moses in the 13 and 6 will help; push Yeo to the middle rotation and Luai probably needs to go.

Hooker was a problem too; service was sh!t when Watson came on. Robson looked good when he scampered…

Cleary didn’t play well tonight; what was most disappointing was that his kicks were so one dimensional. Only one early tackle count kick and none in behind the line to break up the rushing defence. Oh well; he’ll just have to content himself with a 5th straight premiership.
