i think the question should be who's coaching first - can Laurie turn things around?

1 win in 6 series - and multiple series losses where he's won game 1 only to lose the series 2-1

2013
2017
2025

also 4 occurrences Laurie's blues have been smashed by 12+ in Game 3 irrespective if its a series decider

A near identical squad turned around a 1-0 deficit last series to win the shield back on enemy territory.

That squad was down by 20 points in at halftime in Game 2, the coach speaks about the need to focus on discipline and then the squads is down by 20 points again at halftime in Game 3.

It doesn't really matter who gets named in the squad, if the coaching staff aren't changed then we'll see the same poorly disciplined, disorganised mess next series.

Somebody in the match thread reckoned last night was the worst performance they'd seen from a team in a decider. I thought straight away of Qld in the Game 3 decider of 2005. They were at home and expected to take out the series. They had young stars like Slater, Thurston and Smith in their squad with the more experienced Lockyer at 5/8th. And they got destroyed.

TBF Joey ended his NSW career with a bang and played a 10/10 game, but it shouldn't have been as pronounced.

Qld got rid of Michael Hagan after losing two series in a row and replaced him with Meninga. With much the same squad as the previous series, Qld were beaten by a Brett Finch field goal in the opening game of 2006. Lockyer was panned as a good club player but useless at Origin level and told by the QRL he had to aim up or he'd be dropped.

The rest is history...

I'm willing to give the players a second chance based on 2024 and game one this year.

Daley better be hung and displayed at the town square though.

Can we stop employing has been SOO players as the coach now please and get some actual coaches with NRL experience?

I'd take Hasler, Toovey or Holbrook, even Jason Taylor (lol) over the useless Laurie Daley.

Fun fact. The special school board at the NSWRL gave Daley a contract until 2029. Thats going to be an expensive payout you wank-stains. Because he surely must go!

More importantly the board and CEO of the NSWRL need to get shot into the sun.

These are the decisions they've made since 2023. (Fittler's last series loss)

1. Offer Fittler his job back, but on a part time basis with a pay cut.

In what world does it make sense to rehire a proven failure hire, but give him less resources to work with next time round? Thankfully Fittler's ego led him to decline the offer!

2. Hired Michael Maguire

Possibly the only sensible thing the NSWRL has done in the 2000's.

3. Hire Laurie Daley (1/5 series record at the time) to a 5 YEAR CONTRACT

Lol

Honourable mention to the NSWRL not knowing which players were eligible for NSW (Inglis, Devere) and allowing them to play for Qld or not selecting them out of ignorance respectively.

f**k these clowns off.

We have a bloke who's side is in second and can regularly kick the ball 70m.

Burton is a must next year at 6 or if they have the balls drop Latrell and play him at centre.

Nathan's distance has to be down at least 30-40% and Luai has never been able to kick long

Not quite.

Lockyer was considered the greatest fullback in Queensland history but there were question marks over his ability to play five-eighth and lead the state.

Lockyer responded by leading his state, club and country to success as a five eighth.

What is the story regarding Michael De vere? He played 5 games for NSW.

Rumour has it he still has staples in his head to this day.

The story is at first they thought he was a Queenslander because he played for the Broncos. That is legit the level of effort they were putting into researching origin eligibility in the late 90's early 2000's.

It might have even cost De Vere a few games as his first game for NSW was in 2001 I believe.

Why drop latrell? Besides the decision to kick early in the game, I thought he went alright. Nathan couldn’t kick, he’s playing busted, so is a few of the players. Moses will come in next year for Jerome, Barnett will replace Stef and someone will make way for Murray. The main issue is the coaching and management. Laurie must go.
