The Rumours Thread

With all the technology available these days to check this, it’s inexcusable. It would have been generated on computer , so even a cursory spell checker would have picked this up. You’d have thought after it happened to Bird that the directive would have gone out that everything had to be double checked so this wouldn’t happen again. It just makes us look very amateurish and a reflection of how the club is performing- and it is. No wonder were perennial bottom dwellers if we cant even get this right. We used to been seen as a powerhouse and now were just a source of derision. Whatever happened to the “Saints”

Seems to be a done deal! Great to land someone in that department especially someone like Anderson!
Though why have we waited for a new CEO. To bring someone in .. anyways good to see a change. Hopefully Haran and Millward leave now
Well I hope that Ben Haran as the General Manager of Football will be replaced by someone with more ability while Ian Millward, who is currently the Pathways Recruitment Officer, might get a job elsewhere within the club and Shane Millard who is the Recruitment and Pathways Manager is relieved of this function and concentrate as Head Coach of the Jersey Flegg Cup squad once Anderson takes over as the Head of Recruitment and Retention.

Anderson, Watsford and Flanagan will be working alongside each other to build a stronger squad of players throughout all of the grades at the Dragons by the sound of things.

Your last paragraph is the most telling. No mention of Haran in that report.

Hoping like anything this is true.
Makes me realise Webb was just not up to it in his position.

Makes me realise Webb was just not up to it in his position.
I don't think that Webb had much to do with the Football part of the business and how it should operate and he just focussed on the financial and administrative side. The Board I think finally realised this and that is why they decided not to renew his contract and they wanted the club to go in a different direction and that is why they appointed Watsford.

"The St. George Illawarra Dragons decided not to renew Ryan Webb's contract as CEO, leading to his departure from the club after five years in the role. The decision was made by the board and aims to usher in a new direction for the club's head office. Webb will remain with the club to assist with the transition until April next year.

The decision to part ways with Webb was made at a board meeting on Tuesday and was not related to any specific incident or performance issue. It reflects the club's desire to bring in a fresh face and potentially new leadership strategies. The Dragons are now beginning the search for a new CEO.

Webb's tenure included navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and overseeing significant changes within the club, including the appointment of Shane Flanagan as head coach. The Dragons have not made the NRL finals during his time as CEO."

Five years of virtually nothing and the Board had to wait until Webb's contract was coming to an end before they could say goodbye. Now Watsford has been tasked to get the Club in a better position to have the right personnel and to get the right players to get the Club to be successful in the future and by getting the likes of Anderson to be head of recruitment is a start.

Let's hope , he also needs to clean out all the dead wood ........

To be honest this Anderson thing all sounds a bit odd to me. If he's so good why have the Roosters signed Carbone? Why are they seemingly willing to lett him go only a few months after he actually returned to work following his accident? Is it because they feel he is no longer able to complete his role productively? But they don't look like the bad guys by actually firing him?

Presumably the recruitment role involves being in and around numerous football grounds across the local area and nationally, to watch players. Not all of them are particularly wheelchair accessible, I know a few in my local area that are difficult for disabled family members, let alone for a quadriplegic.

I'm not trying to be discriminatory in any way, just questioning his capacity to fulfill a role of this nature. After all we are trying to get the very best person for the job. If I'm wrong then no problem.

The removal and replacement ( with winners and best available) of the following is imperitive to usher in a culture of success:
* Haran,
* DYoung,
* CYoung,
* Doust
* Ian Millward, and;
* any rusted on fossil Board members

* whilst K Flann's spot in the top 17 garners a lot of discussion, he is far from the worst in our top 17, however, removing him from our halves is imperitive. Right now there isnt anyone better, but our Management MUST work towards the best available game management half. In the mean time, everything that can be done to fast track Kade Reed should be done.

I hope i am very wrong, but if Haran has some pull with particular members of the board, it might be a little while before the new CEO can turf him.
I think its more to do with employment contracts of some staff. I may be wrong, but I don't think some of the staff are on fixed-term contracts as the coaching staff are. Think it may be a longer and more difficult process than some may believe

This is my frustration with our fans and members. There is no point making these comments.

You should fact check
Joel Carbone isnt replacing or taking over Andersons role, he is taking over Clint Zammitt who left a few weeks ago to join the Cowboys..
Anderson hasnt been back a few months.

You're pretty much wrong with the entire comment.
Anderson was not replaced by Carbone.
Carbone replaced Zammit
Anderson has been back at work for 2 years and he has no trouble getting to games.

"Anderson has stuck by Va’a and his brother ever since they put pen to paper, attending almost every game from Harold Matthews to NSW Cup, even after suffering a life-changing spinal injury."

That McEwan bloke talks too much, but anyway key quotes for me from Flanno:

"Jacob Halangahu's gonna play soon"
"We need some genuine big dogs up front. That's the market we're in. That's where we're looking - the middle part of the field"
"And maybe an elite winger if we can find one"
"We've gone to the Sharks numerous time this year to ask if they'll release Atkinson early since he's not playing and every time they say no"

Also interesting that he didn't really confirm Watsford's suggestion that they're searching for a so-called marquee halfback. He talked about the 4 halves on the books for next year - Atkinson, LKT, Flanagan and Ilias.
