I think it’s commendable that he wanted to honour contract to be honest, same as KPP wanting to stay here to see his out when he had the option to leave.
Us, Eels, Tigers are all in the same position that we’re not going to win anything this season. Makes more sense for the players to honour their contracts, have Mad Monday with their teammates, etc.
Brown wouldn’t have improved us significantly with the injuries we had and because of that he would have been on a hiding to nothing with the media due to his salary next year. Made sense to finish the season (which is only a few games) with the Eels. He’s been there a long time. He shouldn’t rush leaving imo.
Just because the media call it a “hit” because we’re their flavour of the week doesn’t mean it actually is one. This is a complete non issue in comparison to everything.
4 weeks ago we were on track to be full strength by rnd 19, minus Adam Elliott. So in a vacuum it could have been a good move to try some things and work on combinations. In the last 3 weeks we've lost arguably 3 of our top 4 players for the season so in hindsight it would have been a disaster.
And I agree, with the amount of media attention he has gotten, he would have been fighting an uphill battle, not to mention coping with the change on and off the field. It doesnt make sense given the position the club was in.
So it was probably in the best interest of both parties that he just stay at Parra. At least now if he isnt picked in firsts, it lowers risk of injury too - touch wood. If he is 18th man every week, even better. Dont think his confidence can take any more of a beating than it has this year.
But I think everyone knows both he and the knights are going to need to hit the ground running next year to keep the wolves at bay.
