Weird that boxing by non-boxers generates so much interest - not sure this is a step up or down from Jake Paul having sham matches against once good/great boxers who are middle aged and seem to have signed a contract saying they won't hit him
Can we call it an even race to the bottom?
I have to admit I don't like boxing, although I used to watch back in the day when heavyweight fights like Tyson v Holyfield, Lennox Lewis etc were genuinely box-office. I understand there's some very good heavyweights right now too, but it's just too hard to sort through the noise of BS one-sided fights and fake hype.
But I watch sport to watch the best of the best. Two has-been footballers past 40 is not the best of the best. I don't watch Golden Oldies league. I don't watch the Champions Tour golf. Give me the elite. And if they have contracts saying 'don't hit me' (which I am almost certain they do) then F that even more.
I will never forget the SBW v Francois Botha fight, when Botha was about to put Sonny Bill in the ground but the referee saved him. My interest died its final death that day. Mind you, it should have gone long before, when SBW fought Gary Gurr, a fat drunk who my mate's sister used to date. I couldn't believe a slob like him was getting a chance to even be in the same movie theatre as an athlete, let alone to actually box SBW.
