As much as I love Toronto and the idea. It's an expensive way of doing things. There almost endless expansion opportunities without the trans Atlantic journey.

Glasgow
Dublin
London
Toulouse
Cardiff

If any of these had the financial backing Toronto had, they'd all stand a great chance of long-term viability.

North America needs It's own comp but we've seen enough false dawns on that front.
London they have had a rich backer whose invested close to 30 million pounds

The issue is the English game isn’t interested in expanding

Catalans will likely lose their central funding soon and most super league clubs would love to see the back of them

Toronto was working

They had the highest crowds in league one history and probably the championship

London have had many rich backers and have still failed to deliver a sustainable SL club. If they cant do it with 30million quid topping them up then what makes you think they ever will?

RFL has offered far more opportunities for expansion than NRL ever will, its just they've never had the resources to back up the ambition. Reality is expansion clubs cost a lot of money, an awful lot. And RFL doesn't have it.

London, Toronto, Wales, Perpignan, Toulouse, Gateshead, Sheffield, Paris have all been given a shot. only one has been able to turn into something sustainable.

Don’t worry your English mates will kill off Catalans soon and the job will be done

M62 clubs fail all the time.

way to ignore any reasonable counter argument.
Catalans aren’t like the other clubs you mentioned yet many English clubs are trying to get rid of them

Imposing travel costs on them is 1 million pounds in extra cost

Removal of their grant another 1.4? Milion pounds

Let’s be honest if Catalans got a French tv deal worth 10 millon pounds pa would they be allowed to keep it all?

We know the answer to that don’t we

So who is next up to take Salford spot? Are they going to use the points system? As it seems there isn’t an appetite for Toulouse.
Or just use some other way to determine the lucky English club?

Had a meeting yesterday no decision was made as to number of teams

Toulose may still be a chance

They could pursue legal options as they followed the img criteria and will probably rank highest

They are, in that they are a new club brought in from outside traditional RFL heartlands. That they have been the only one to survive is a great credit to them and the support they get from the council. But they have failed against some of the reasons they were entered in the first place. My personal feeling is they should be allowed to be in, RFL cover transport costs but the club gets no grant money until French media revenue is generated, or British tv pay more for more content amount. Same with Toulouse.

But you chose to ignore the point being made, you scream for London to be in SL yet after 27 year of SL money and $60million of private investment (plus god knows how much from previous owners) they still cant build a sustainable SL club. So HOW can they be in SL? Come on genius you insist on London being in so tell us, how they can survive and thrive when all previous attempts have failed?

No decision on if the grading system will remain, part of the current strategic review.
If Toulouse are best of the rest I can see them being invited in with no grant and having to pay travel costs. If they have the money to cover that is doubtful. Or if it stays 12 they may get the grant and cover travel costs which they probably could afford.
If not them it then becomes between York and Bradford in all likelihood. Personally I'd prefer York (if they've got the financial backing) until Bradford get their stadium situation sorted.
It feels inevitable SL will go to 14 clubs, just a question of when. It may be something they go to next tv deal with.

In some ways bringing Toulouse in for Salford next year, and keeping York and Bradford as potential selling points for a new tv deal could be a good move.

London remain the wild card. Things have been kept very quiet about what their future plans are, why Hetherington has joined them, if they have serious money backers, if a rebrand is on the cards etc.

Exciting times for the game. York will elevate the game to great heights. 97th largest city in england..

I’m the one that posted their owner put in a 30 million

Loads have clubs have failed previously

Wakey many times
Hull kr
Salford many times
Leigh

Your game gave Toronto zero tv money in super league but then found one million pounds for the club that replaced them

Leigh … who are a suburb of Wigan … which is a tiny town on the outskirts of Manchester

The money that Catalans are being denied is small change

It won’t make a difference to super league clubs anyway

Denying toulose entry when they will rank 12th is typical English rugby league

They played by your rules which are biased against them anyway

I don’t want the nrl to spend a cent on super league. Down the track they should set up a pro French league with the Wolfpack in it and maybe London and Manchester if they aren’t in super league

Totally bypass the existing structure and start fresh

Well, I think that the English game lacks a truly professional organisation at the top tier:
All the clubs in England need to be well funded and respected but we need a more clear breakout of a top tier:
*Saint Helens
*Wigan
*Leeds
*Warrington
*Hull kr
*Hull fc
* Catalans
* Toulouse
*London
*York

I agree with breakaway league. York is being overrated by fans.

Most leagues towns in France are smaller than english league towns. Need to combine the best clubs from each.

Catalans
Toulose
Marseille
Lyon
Then places like Avignon
London
Manchester
Toronto
Ottowa

Never happen. Have to find investors, venues, players..UK teams already established. 10 team league is good plan. Maybe NRL waiting for superleague to implode?! Maybe they don't care?! Like I said ashes is another package they can sell so NRL should care.

Wasn’t that what Super League was supposed to be?
