We have tried it, numerous times, and its failed each time. Largely because the Sl just doesn't have the money to prop up new clubs whilst they build a sustainable business. And therefore these new clubs rely on investors who eventually get sick of pouring money down the drain. Paris, Sheffield, Gateshead, Wales, London, Toronto, Toulouse. Not like it hasnt been tried.
Like I said we have pretty clear evidence of the challenge when you look at London. 27 years in SL, tens of millions in investment, in England's biggest city, yet not even close to being a sustainable club. SL is very much stuck between a rock and a hard place. Too small to generate revenue needed, too revenue poor to grow.
I just hope they dont abandon the grading system. It for me is the key, make clubs grow their business to justify being in SL. Its by far the best chance to see clubs improve and new clubs come up that are ready for SL. Seeing clubs like mine, Leigh, Wakey etc that have traditionally been struggling clubs but now adding fans and vibrancy to SL is the answer. If we can get 14 strong clubs playing in front of full houses then we will be in a position to keep growing.
