I doubt it happens

But if it does nrl is around to pick up the pieces on a global level

Just must ignore any temptation to pay overs even if it’s someone like Cleary

But the nrl could be running short of wingers for a few years if it comes off

Super league war in oz cost 500 million

For union this will run into billions … which they don’t have
I hope they do have billions because then they won’t have them anymore :)

I mean its really not. Who wouldn't take Saudi millions for this.

Luckily for us, its all bullshit right at this moment.
People who want to win premierships.
People who want to play origin.
People who want to represent their country.
People who want to clock 300 games.

Literally our entire comp is made from young boys who dreamed of playing NRL and let's not forget that our best are already on a million plus

I won't be surprised when a few go for a bit of coin. There's always going to be a Sunny Bill. They can have them.

Warriors CEO Cameron George made an interesting point.

The organisers of R360 have said there will be rule changes to make Rugby more entertaining, this could be an opportunity for the NRL to work with R360 and get the games more like league than union. Tidall, one of the chief organisers of R360 was at Origin 3.

If R360 is closer to league than union it could be a huge boost for league to grow internationally and the top 300 Union players would effectively be switching to league when signing up for R360.

Graham said he’s already pitched this idea to Abdo.

It could be yet another sliding doors moment for league, which traditionally we’ve missed.
Exactly, a problem becomes an opportunity. Let's hope Abdo and V'landys make the most of it.

Sounds like they'll have X number of clubs representing cities who will play a magic weekend type event around the world.
Think:
Sydney
Auckland
London
Paris
Rome
Dublin
Edinburgh
Johannesburg
Buenos Aries
Singapore
Dubai
Miami
etc

They all play over a weekend in one venue magic weekend style. Over the season they play each other once. with a finals series at end. That would be my guess. Its made for global streaming. Australian audience will be minor to what they will be internationally targeting. If Union (and new to the sport fans) will care is the gamble part I guess. And if fans in a city, lets say London, will care if Auckland is playing Singapore enough to keep a stadium looking reasonably full over the course of a weekend is the other potential flaw in the model. Its ambitious!
You seem excited about it. This will be a complete flop and hurt Union in the process, so bring it on

It's going to undermine every Rugby Union comp in the world, which many are already struggling. Now they'll be forced to pay even more for their top players and a decline in viewership.
The Super league war that decimated the NRL is literally playing out now for Rugby. The key difference is Rugby league went for Super League because it was going so well.
They're going for this because they're in trouble...

I can't see how this works at all. Pop up franchisees playing all over the place.. why would you watch it? How could you inspire passionate supporters?

Just have to see how it plays out but the NRL needs to get cracking on lifting the cap and a marquee allowance now. We won't be able to keep all of them but hopefully we get them paying massive overs like they did with Sualii.
Id agree except I was around for the NFL World League when a minor sport, at the time in Europe, managed to regulalry fill Wembley stadium for a London team playing other big international city teams and that attracted a fanbase from the whole country. And that was in days before social media and the internet to get people engaged. I spent many a weekend on the train from the North going to London to cheer on the Monarchs. It only lasted 2 years due to cost blow outs and lack of tv deal but it was a glimpse into a possibility.

I just cant see it happening but Saudis have very deep pockets and Union has a lot of influence with the old school brigade including some of those princes who went to Eaton and the like so you never know.

What's another lesson in this for Rugby League? An organisation not sanctioned by World Rugby (Union) is just taking the name Rugby and trying to make their version the one that breaks through into the mainstream consciousness. Now, I think the comp will be a spectacular failure, but we need to stop ceding the name to Union.

How do we stop it though?

Write a strongly worded letter?

What I meant is , just use it, like Rugby 360 is, they didn't ask permission. RL media not referring to Union as Rugby would be a good place to start.

"State of Origin Rugby"
"That's fantastic Rugby by Katoa"
"Cleary is one of the best Rugby players in the world"

We don't always have to throw 'League' on the end. Just like R360 commentators won't be throwing 360 on the end, as we know their version isn't looking like it will be strictly RU traditional rules.

karlos filiga anyone??
geez, that’s a name I’d forgotten, was going to be the next SBW, got the biggest ever contract for a teenager and then finished his career having played 11 minutes of NRL ! Oooops

Moses Suli is another one that got a monster deal with no NRL experience, has had a solid career but not the next Inglis as we were told He’d be.

At least he got $200k out of the sharks.

was thinking the same.

they see these huge Māori&pacific islander kids ripping it up in the youth grades against much smaller opposition and wet themselves whilst looking for the chequebook.

This R360 comp will be unlikely to get off the gournd. For its funding from the Saudis to become a vailable, the organisers have to meet certain key metrics.

These include:

1. Having enough players signed to fill a minimum of 8 teams for the competition;
2. Broadcast deals in place; and
3. Having sponsorhip agreements of a certain value in place.
