Last week the ref pulled the the 4 peat Panthers into the game with a penalty against us in possession for a gift 2 points to Panthers, followed by a gift 6 points by not calling the Panthers for the same penalty he called on us. 8 point turn around right there.

Today the ref gave us absolutely fracking nothing yet still we were beating the premiership #1 mid way through the 2nd half. We're without our Australian half and NZed 5/8 too.

We've looked the better team two weeks in a row against the best the comp has got and it's taken the most miserable sort of one sided diet of refereeing to take its toll on our young side.

I hope Iongi studies the art of support play.

His going well

But if there is one criticism we made 4 breaks in the first half and he was nowhere to be seen in support.

All the great fullbacks Paps, Tedesco, Gutho, Edwards, Hammer are there when a break is made.

If Iongi wants to be elite he could have scored 3 tries today in that first half if he was there and be under the posts.

Gutho is slowing down but always was on the spot when a break was made and with Iongi having more speed he would have scored 3 tries today with the breaks we made.

I think Ryles dumping Dylan for Joash

Is a genius move.

Give him 9 games now and realise he is a dud.

Instead of waiting to Rd 9 next year and realise we are in the shit.
Bingo!

Too bad the idiots in the media are too stupid to understand long term goals against short term reward. Delayed gratification is correlated with higher IQ, something the boneheads in Foxsports HQ are in short supply.

I know it’s become a meme here that I hate Iongi, but I don’t. I’ve said since the start that I think it’s been worth the investment sacrificing this season by putting him ahead of Gutherson (and cutting him free to go to Saints) for the longer-term potential, even though Iongi has frustrated me by doing shit that Gutho wouldn’t have done / not doing things that Gutho would have done that has cost us games.

Having said that, I do think he’s coming along nicely at this point. He’s miles away from being a complete fullback, but his improvement has been clear over the course of the season.

But he is still a long way off being a consistently good fullback, and your observations about his support play are one of them. At least he seems to be weeding the worst of his frequent bomb drops out of his game, and I really hope that with the rest of this year and another off season under his belt, he starts showing that all-round consistency that we need.

As much as we bitched about Gutho’s inability to break a game open over the last few years, he is still a very good fullback, and an all-round footballer. Iongi is not at this point - but he has youth and time on his side. I really hope the investment is worth it.

He seems to play more on that right edge than centrally, so I wonder if that isn't Ryles' doing or his own preference. All of the great support players tend to position themselves behind the ruck for that very reason.

The stats say (admittedly 4 weeks old) that we are net positive in both penalties and repeat sets. It’s not the refs stopping us from winning.

The argument that the “good” teams get the rub of the green and the “shit” teams are hammered because “corruption” is non factual also. The better teams generally give away more penalties and repeat sets than the shit teams. They are good enough to win anyway.

We as Parra fans have massive blue and gold coloured glasses. We love to blame a ref.

Don’t get me started on the commentators. They are also not against us. It’s painful to read the same dribble every week, generally from the same people.

We are simply not very good right now. We show glimpses but not for long enough. We are getting better though.

When Walker made a clean break in the 1st half and passed to the right wasn't Ionghi looming up on the left?
We are a just a very weak minded team

The good teams get “the rub of the green”, ie they get more penalties, because their ruck control is good on both sides. Us getting pinged for infringements and not winning as many penalties/set restarts is because we’re getting beaten on both sides - and it’s been that way for literally years. It’s not rocket science - we’re just behind the mean in terms of quality at this stage.

The ref was bad but certainly didn’t cost us the game. I’ll just copy and paste my post from after the Bulldogs game.

We tried hard and continue to grow. We are hanging in there for long periods against much better teams until fatigued, then errors let us down.
We will continue to grow and we will have better ball in better field position, therefore be less fatigued and causing less errors.
The nucleus of a good side is there. The attitude is good. The effort is good. Just missing a little bit of class. The future is not too far ahead. We’ll keep getting better.
It was pre-ordained that we were going to lose today. I thought the Eels team as a whole gave it their absolute best. I also think we were robbed of any chance of winning that game. Sour grapes? Yeah/nah.

He wasn't close enough

Walker looked both ways and yes i think it was Iongi but he was too far back.

He probably should have been where Jnr was.

If he was where Jnr was he scores
