Let’s be fair, it probably is an afterthought at this moment and that’s probably not a problem.

There’s a NRL Finals series, Ashes Tour and Pacific series to be completed yet.

What outcome do you expect there to be by having WC details confirmed this early?

To make travel arrangements?

I, like many others, need to start planning annual leave through work in advanced.

Origin is planned years in advanced, but the Pacific Championship, Ashes and now the world cup is seemingly only planned months in advanced.

The tournament won’t start for over 12 months.

what travel arrangements or annual leave can you possibly book more than 12 months in advance?

Did you read any further than the first line of my comment?
Yeah I did. You are whinging that the WC hasn’t been organised yet which hinders your arrangements.

Yet the tournament is over 12 months away, so you can’t book any of your leave and travel arrangements at this time.

The Pacific Tests were announced about a month ago and are being played outside of regular holiday times. If the WC is announced before the next NRL season, that gives you more than six months to make your arrangements. Ample time.

Ah of course. Because this parody account says that it's ample time to plan for annual leave, it's obviously the case for everyone.

Twat is it? Bloody hell, you let that get far under your skin than it deserved. Take a break mate, if that’s how interacting in a friendly discussion about football makes you react.

You can’t book annual leave more than 12 months in advance anyway, so what are you on about.

Even if you could, you know what, I have an idea for you precious. Book your month off and expect a final to be played last weekend of November or first weekend of December and then, when the tournament is announced, go and make any minor amendments you need to.

Stop whinging for the sake of whinging you big bloody baby!

I wonder twhy?
Do you think it’s because they announce their events earlier?

or could it be because the game is played to a near equal professional level in 11 countries, comprising of approximately 60 clubs globally, with a strong second tier professional set up in countries like Japan. RU has 133 national member unions well established in each habited continent with various competition structures to accomodate including a World 7s circuit to assist the development of emerging nations.

Nah it wouldn’t be because of all that, it’s because they announce their event early.

I think it’s because they treat internationals with respect and as the pinnacle of their sport. They plan well ahead, they stick with what works and they get good media covg for them. Unlike nrl.

I think the main problem is that international rugby league is not the responsibility of the NRL, it's the IRLs area. Anything the NRL does here is extra effort of their own back.

You’re just objectively wrong here. Maybe that’s true for you but at least where I work annual leave can be booked years in advance especially if it overlaps with school holidays or Christmas.

This is it. The international league schedule feels like it’s thought up on the fly and changes way too often. It’s impossible to take it seriously. Until it’s treated like a proper international game and not some silly offseason kick about that’s how the fans will treat it.

There is no build up or planning for these events. There’s no chance to build up a narrative or hype for these events. They also mostly have no history as we chop and change what the calendar looks like.

They treat internationals as the "pinnacle of their sport" because there is f**k-all interest and therefore monetary value in their domestic competitions.
In fact, that lack of interest in the sport as an actual entertainment product is only papered over and unlikely to be changed because of its` viability at international level where the interest is more in the clash between nations than whether the game is actually attractive as a spectacle.

couldn't have said it better. These people talk about arranging an RL international calendar as if there has been decades of global interest. The fact of the matter is, only within the last ten years has there been any more than three competitive nations worthy of "World Champions" title for over fifty years.

sure, a by product of everything I just explained. They plan ahead because of the demand. Union is institutionalised globally and has been for decades.

Just accept that fact and then you will never need to compare what league does to what union does ever again. You can start to appreciate the cards RL currently holds and the worthiness of the way those cards are played.

You’re just objectively wrong here. Maybe that’s true for you but at least where I work annual leave can be booked years in advance especially if it overlaps with school holidays or Christmas.
be that as it may, the World Cup is not taking place during any great demanded holiday period. The hotels will not be all booked up well in advance. Nothing is lost by not announcing the WC fixtures until Feb next year.
