Unless stadium owners are going to offer a cash sweetener, losing up to 19k ticket sales for the Grand Final is just plainly ridiculous.

If anything, the cup final needs to be the one to move, in an attempt at reigniting something in that comp. You’d have to do it well in advance, like in 2025 we’d need to know where the finals were up to, say, 2029 so that people knew well in advance that it was going to be Cardiff, Newcastle, Edinburgh etc.

I think a 50k stadium would be plenty. So off the top of my head St James Park, Manchester City, Everton, Any of the Glasgow stadiums, Cardiff and the Aviva.
50k is far too small for the grandfinal.

at the very least it should Be no less than 60k but ideally anything north 65k would be perfect which leaves you very few options.

Warrington to Newcastle, UK is like 4 hours one way

The only real possibilities for the Super League grand final are Old Trafford, Etihad, a redeveloped Elland Road or one maybe Anfield or Everton

The historical factor for the Challenge cup and Wembley is the "national stadium"

Most European nations have this concept, Australia not quite. It'd seem strange to us

Manchester is the perfect location for the grandfinal played in the early evening.

as for the challenge cup being played at Wembley if the current trajectory continues I can’t honestly see this continuing 10-15 years from now.

Why would they? They don’t employ any development coaches anymore, there’s no plan for the North East (or any part of the country) and they’re too busy rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic with structure changes.

The only reason we had to leave Old Trafford was if Manchester United were renovating Old Trafford but they’re not, so we don’t need to move.

Wembley is finished for finals, I think. I say that as a massive Challenge Cup fan.
It’s sht, like really sht!
Literally the only reason we should play there is there isn’t another stadium with a big enough capacity.

Eh? There’s a 6 club NE comp at numerous age groups and tag league has been introduced to Newcastle this year.

Cool. There’s tournaments across the country. There’s still no development coaches or strategic plans in place for any part of the UK. The game randomly plastering Sam Luckley on some emails and posters with no plan is a waste of time.

It is but still better than most in the country. The relationship we have with them shouldn’t be overlooked, either.

It’s no where near better, all it is is bigger.
27 years since I’ve been to old Trafford and I can’t believe how poor it now is in compared to modern stadiums I’ve been to In last 10 years.
As soon as a stadium around 65-70 is built in the north the gf should move next day!

It’s been poorly maintained, which is why they’re building a new stadium. Stick at United and get in at their new stadium should be the goal.

We know it’s coming and has to happen and the only question is when will the construction start.

I agree completely.

it has the stench of slow decline.

This is why I don’t understand how the elland rd expansion will only be to 53k.

there’s something like a 28k season ticket waiting list at Leeds utd which obviously makes the expanded 53k far too small.

elland rd expansion should be 60k-65k at the very least and possibly even 70k.
