Say if the game was at night time, would it be possible to attract more people? Does wembley put on events at night starting at 8pm like we do for our games?

Everyone loves players withdrawing from internationals, it's what makes our game so great.

Saw this team of withdraws.

Would they be the best team in international footy right now ?

So the lower bays are getting to the point now where it's possible to count all the tickets left and then deduct them from the know totals for each tier.

The figures I have for each Tier at Wembley are:
  • Lower tier: 34,303
  • Middle tier: 16,532
  • Upper tier: 39,165
So in the Lower Tier there are 9 seats in 103, 69 in 110, 162 in 113, 16 in 120, 4 in 121, 185 in 132 and 210 in 135. That's 655 seats left, which would equal around 33,648 sold.

In the Middle Tier, there are 72 in 204, 57 in 206, 156 in 207, 27 in 209, 139 in 210, 173 in 211, 50 in 212, 63 in 215, 166 in 216, 61 in 223, 66 in 230, 40 in 233, 26 in 237, 33 in 242, 42 in 243, 150 in 246 and 54 in 249. That's 1,375 seats left, which would be around 15,157 sold.

That's 48,805 plus whatever has been sold in the upper bowl.
If just under 60k tickets are on sale and 49k have been sold in the lower&middle bowls then it’s at least 2-3k sold in the upper bowl judging by the blacked out bays.

No, a lot of people will be on bus and train trips going down for the day. 95% of the crowd will be coming from 4-5 hours away.

I think the night factor will bring more people, thats just my view anyway

Not sure it would, in all honesty. If anything it would probably knock a few thousand off because an 8pm game doesn’t finish to nearly 10pm and then getting out of Wembley and onto a Tube takes the best part of an hour and by the time the northern based fans would be approaching Kings Cross or Euston, the last trains to major northern cities would have long since left the platform and people would be required to spend out on a nights hotel, which is an added cost.

Doesn’t London test matches often have a higher number of ticket sales from London postcodes?

There is a decent amount of tickets sold historically from people in the south. We get some of the “event crowd” who just like sporting events like World Cup’s, some northern born exiles and some patriotic people who want to see England do well in all sports.

It’s not more than those from the north, though.

People on the seat counting watch are reporting sales of nearly 700 done in the last 24 hours which is great news if true.

i say “if true“ because they also report that seats keep coming available again in previously sold out bays so god only knows what’s true and what’s not.

8pm is a no-no for those travelling from the north, last trains back to Manchester/Leeds are 9pm ish coach travel is 4hrs+ depending on departure point so it would be 3/4 am Sunday before they got back. Plus no way would the BBC show live RL prime time Saturday night.

Could someone from the UK explain the north/south dynamic to me in terms of the north/south dynamic here in Australia? Is it a similar situation where London/Soccer is Vic/AFL and Northern England is NSW/QLd? Is there a similar rivalry code wise? It sounds like Vic is probably further ahead in terms of RL than London - the Storm obviously has a lot to do with this, whereas the London team has seemingly never made any traction in its various iterations. I know soccer absolutely dwarfs everything in the UK so maybe not a fair comparison where NRL/AFL are basically of equal standing. In famous RL towns like Wigan - is RL actually the #1 code, or is it actually still soccer that rules? Just curious!

Think of it like this, if you buy a national newspaper and go to the back page you will have 5-7 pages of Premier League and European Football followed by another few pages of lower league domestic football, followed by a form guide then a page on darts, snooker maybe, motor sport THEN you might have 1 full page on rugby union and maybe a little bit of rugby league on the corner of that same page.

League is not the number 1 sport in any of the big cities however smaller towns/urban areas that make up a city like Greater Manchester it does have a cult like popularity. Some of these tows have populations smaller than streets in Surry Hills so the fact that they can get 2k to a muck ground every week is impressive.

Hull and Wigan are the only 'cities' where the popularity of their rugby league teams dwarfs that of their Football League teams.

Thanks that's very interesting! Is League still #1 in Wigan/Hull when their soccer teams are in the Premier League (as opposed to lower divisions)?
