What do the Gold Coast bring?

Yet it remains a trophy basket case? Why? I just don’t have any answers. Should be top 4 every year…
Front office instability, never found the right coach & leadership group of players.

Tino & Campbell you can build around. Lose either one and they're back to square one.

That was the first time the Suns have made finals so no to more on field success. Crowds for Titans have been better over both clubs’ histories so no to that too.

Not saying it’s a landslide by any means but Titans aren’t losing the battle.

Let’s see what happens … the Titans better get Bellamy up there very quickly I would suggest …. The Suns are fourth favourites next season at $9.00 whilst the Titans are over 50/1…

The AFL seem to have a good record of expansion teams getting into grand finals and winning comps

Yeh Titans really need some on field success. Confident they would get back to 20k+ numbers when they do so but it always seems to elude them, hopefully Hannah can get it done, Bellamy is a long shot.

Paying big money for lazy players has killed them. First was Hayne and now Fafita.
Currently have too many small players/ Fullbacks in Cambell, Brimson and Kini. Need to swap one out for a good defensive 6.

Sounds good in theory and I agree it would add more stability to the club. Problem is it is more difficult to uproot a player and their family who have their network around them and move to another city. Much easier for a young single guy with the add benefit of what the GC brings. It would be interesting to see what making the semis for a couple of consecutive years does for the club in terms of recruitment and spectator numbers.

Have always told my wife if we didn't have our family structure in Sydney we would be living on the GC and she agrees.

There are plenty that would come. That should be your core base of player. Ones you build the culture around. Obviously you are going to have youth, but if they are surrounded by a more family oriented setup, it's much easier for the senior players to pull them into line.

They had a chance to merge with the Crushers and then the Mariners at certain points in history. Instead, both relevant GC teams died, and rebirthed as the Titans, were inept management has been their biggest flaw.

If they had accepted the Mariners offer, they would have been guaranteed players like Brett Kimmorley and Scott Hill. Imagine what could have been?

Man, what the bloody hell do people have against the GC??
I really don't understand the hate.

On every single metric they're in the top half of the comp easy.

Imagine the hate when they start winning!!
Too many expats on the Gold Coast. However I would love to see the Titans play the Dolphins or Broncos in a semi.

Not sure it would have eventuated as the Broncos had their exclusivity to SEQ clause.

The big problem the Gold Coast will always have is that a good chunk of the people who live there are from elsewhere and already have their teams. I’ve got friends on the Gold Coast who are from Sydney and are die hard Eels supporters. Another is from Melbourne who goes for the Storm and Collingwood. My depot is on the Gold Coast. Most of the cars have silver ferns/polynesian symbols on them or they are ex Sydney or Melbourne people.

I‘ve been to a couple of Titans games in the last year. It felt like more the half the crowd were in the visiting side.
Exactly. The Titans draw decent crowds but a significant portion (if not the majority) of the people in attendance support the opposition team, especially when they're up against teams like Souths or the Broncos.

True. I went to the Titans v Roosters game in Robina last year and there were definitely more Roosters supporters.

Meh, same with the Suns. As long as they get punters in.

That was the game I was at as well. Definitely got the same impression of it. For me though it was a very enjoyable day.

Another problem the Gold Coast franchises have (in my opinion) is that there is just a far to casual mindset of some of the players. They think they are going to go there play a little footy and train and spent the rest of the time hanging out with all the beautiful women on the beach and enjoy the lifestyle. The old resort we stayed in Burleigh (before my parents bought a unit of their own) declined rapidly because there were new owners from Sydney who thought that’s what kind of life it was going to be.

who cares what the AFL do, they basically rig their comp so expansion teams are successful. Do you really want that for the NRL?

That comment was part of a discussion regarding which team was having more success on the field .,
I want to see the Titans have some success … because they have generally sucked for 15 years… it won’t involving any “rigging “ … perhaps though making a move to get Bellamy involved would be good for them even if he isn’t the head coach

The Tits definitely need some sustained success on the field. I think they're a sleeping giant to be honest, like the Warriors. A lot of negativity around the club though, which keeps fans and potential fans away. Although their crowds are not even that bad relative to the NRL average. 18k in 2025 which is very respectable, probably includes magic round but still very good.
