I don't recall Sharks doing that.

In 1995 if memory serves three clubs switched to Sydney in a vain attempt to boost profile - Balmain (Sydney Tigers) Canterbury (Sydney Bulldogs) and Easts (Sydney City Roosters). I'm not sure Cronulla ever did it. Or do you mean they moved games to the SFS?
I vaguely recall a newspaper headline including "Sydney Sharks" when they released the star logo. No idea how official that was.

This is correct yeah, thy put a request in into the league, the league denied it as too many teams were then named ‘Sydney’ only for Tigers to revert back within 2 yrs & the Digs only had the 1 yr as Sydney.

I imagine there's a mostly yellow alternate/3rd jersey in the works for away games versus teams in dark jerseys.

Hopefully some kinda variation on the 1988 original Broncos jersey.
You keep calling Broncos colours as Yellow
It's Gold. Not Yellow
Maroon and Gold. Are Broncos colours. With a 3rd. White

"Canary yellow? That's Australian gold my friend"

As mentioned previously there is really strong mail that there will be heritage jersey based of the below they wore in the 2006 GF win over Melbourne. One of the shots of Delouise Hoeter wearing the new navy away had him in shorts exactly like those that go with the 2006 jersey.

It’s gonna look pretty silly throwing back to that jersey, but having this new logo on the jersey. Is the logo going to be Navy and White, or Maroon and White..?

tbh I’ve not been a fan of this years home jersey, but I’ve convinced myself to pick it up just cos it’s the last home with the previous logo.

Gold & maroon, except when it’s on the actual jersey, then it’s a white clip art looking logo. How can they not use the club colours of the logo on the actual jersey? It’s the most important part of the club FFS.
Other clubs apply their logos in negative form (i.e. all white) on dark backgrounds routinely. Melbourne, Souths for example.

Even so, if Brisbane have a light-coloured alternate (or Indigenous or ANZAC) jersey, I'd back that they'd use the coloured version of the logo in that instance.

The logo will be maroon and gold if it's on a white jersey. The white version is being used on the home and away jerseys because it's on a dark background.

Never liked those jerseys, or the alternates that followed from 2007-2011. Looked like some nondescript ESL team's 3rd kit rather than the Brisbane Broncos.

It makes the collared away jersey of the past 2 years even more puzzling.

Also, it's strange seeing people refer to the new logo as a 'chess piece' as I can recall the previous one being called the same thing on Rleague.com back in ~2001 when it was still fairly new and they were all being ranked on there.

I find this weird too. The outgoing logo couldn't look more like a chess piece, whereas this one looks like a bronco on a shield

FMD, Australia`s number one insurer (so the ads keep telling me) laying it on the line:

"While the sleeve might be the most prominent sponsorship spot in the NRL, some Victorians might question why Budget Direct has opted to go so big on rugby league, rather than the AFL.

“We know that the NRL is really moving through the ranks to be the number one sport. When you add in WA, it will obviously start to progress into clear number one,” he said.

“It’s got a really wonderful combination. It’s the demographic of people who are turning up to the games, it’s really become a family sport. And it’s without doubt, the most coherent, fastest, and best 80 minutes on grass in Australia. It also generates one of the only growing audiences in Australia, and it actually does that still on free to air and on SVOD and BVOD.”

“[AFL] a sport that is extraordinarily long to watch,” said Kerr, “and it does have a very, very, very significant lean towards just one state. And we really wanted a nationwide strategy.”

Budget Direct has been very busy this NRL off season. Rather than simply sponsoring one NRL team, the insurer has penned deals with three major clubs—the Perth Bears, South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Melbourne Storm—giving it unparalleled brand exposure through shirt sponsorships.
It was not three months ago that the insurance brand only was a major sponsor of one NRL club. With these new deals, plus an upgraded Dolphins sponsorship, the insurer has a presence in each of the league’s main states. What’s more, Budget Direct is the sleeve sponsor for all these teams, giving the brand a level of consistency and nearly omnipresent exposure through the league.

It’s a unique approach pioneered by chief growth officer Jonathan Kerr.

“I was surprised that nobody had ever done what we are doing, which is having the same actual property on all teams,” Kerr told B&T.
“If you know anything about NRL, you know that it’s shot from the side. And so the most prominent logo position is the sleeve.”

Melbourne Storm

Last month, Budget Direct announced it had become the Melbourne Storm’s first and only platinum partner.

Budget Direct also saw a chance to launch the partnership with an irony-twinged campaign, mimicking AFL guernseys to “get on the radar of Victorians,” said Kerr

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see the Storm run out in the guernsey, with Kerr confirming, “it’s actually against the NRL rules… you have to have sleeves”.

Taking the piss 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Was a small article in the Sunday Telegraph today abut the Broncos new away jersey. It's seen a 180% incvrease in sale compared to last season's away jersey and has sold out on the Broncos website in all sizes except small.

As to those who asked why was the new strip was considered a nod to the late Cyril Connell, the midnight blue strip and colouring are a nod to Connell's junior club, Rockhampton Brothers.

I can't find a link to it online (sorry).

That budget direct guy is smart.

Big companies want national exposure when it comes to advertising because they run national campaigns, not local ones. He's effectively covering 90% of the country with the Bears, Storm, Dolphins and Rabbitohs.
