Season 2026

I believe we have a real opportunity to win the premiership this year.

My take, citing other posters, is that were less overloaded with post season commitments, better squad depth, less pressure to maintain a streak and several players having their required post-season surgeries and rehabilitation.

Weve developed a strong system internally within the club and the pre-2010 era should never become reality with how we are managed as a club.

That being said, we were the best team for several years and last year was our worst year but look where and how we finished.

I think we’re going to be hard to stop this year. We might have one or two more seasons with the fundamental pillars that started it all but the momentum will shift to the new generation with ease IMO.

The saying “all good things come to an end” to me is a malapropism. It’s relative. Yes, we didn’t win five in a row but that’s a narrow bandwidth of success. Weve cemented the foundations of this club and its success is found within the sustainability of the same.
If we made the preliminary and semi finals for the next few years, I’d prefer that than what many of us have experienced over a long tenure as panthers fans.

Our peak as a club won’t be surpassed for many years, if at all. That in itself is a core memory for many panthers and RL fans and worth holding on to.

2026 will be competitive and the pressure is on every other club. Expect good things.

The real frustration with last year is that we still ended up so so close, despite how many things went against us early in the year. I genuinely believe we win that GF if we nailed one of those half dozen chances we had to put the Broncos away.

5 in 6 would still be an unparalleled achievement though.

i kind of get 2022 vibes this season - i feel if we can have alot go right with limited injuries and good form - we could romp the comp and go beast mode again in September.

i love our intensity in September - if you beat us - you probably deserve to beat us - we are a very difficult team to play against

As well as Rep committments and Las Vegas didn't we also have 3 players that had surgery in the off season. I think Cleary and Martin were two such players.

That’s a good point.

There’s many reasons teams struggle to even go back to back in the NRL era, we sustained our momentum and standing for over six incredible seasons.

Looking forward to how we shape up by round 10 because last year we were holding onto the bottom of the ladder.

Doesn't go far enough. 7 tackles should only be from kicks inside your own 50m going dead.

That's right, it was brought in when John Cartwright instructed his players to kick it dead to stop Billy Slater taking the ball in flight.

Exactly. Something tells me teams arent intentionally kicking it dead while attacking the line unless theres some 300 I.Q play going on.

I know what you mean. I hated when a player went for an ambitious put down. Got a finger to the ball and got his team punished for it. But the idea of the best play in the opposition's 20 always being a coin toss with a chip/bomb deep in the in goal could really get old too.

Yeah it'll never be perfect. I guess I'm going with what I see as the better of two evils. At least its got some entertainment value with players having a go.

Storm had nothing for us. We win that pretty comfortably if they got past Broncos.

Penrith's new signing on verge of stunning move as Ivan Cleary tosses up 2026 squad

Ivan Cleary has introduced a number of new faces into the squad as he refreshes the team.

The Penrith Panthers have reportedly handed hulking new recruit Toby Crosby a contract upgrade after impressing Ivan Cleary and the coaching staff during a tough pre-season. Cleary made a number of signings from the Warriors' title winning NSW Cup side with 22-year-old Crosby one of them.

Crosby was on a train and trial deal with the Panthers, but was rumoured to have impressed the coaching staff when first joining with his work ethic. And this appears to have seen him earn a contract upgrade.

The Western Weekender reporter Peter Lang claimed the club have handed the towering forward a boosted deal with the 22-year-old on the verge of joining Cleary's 30-man squad for the 2026 NRL season. "Toby Crosby has impressed coaching staff with his work ethic during the gruelling Panthers pre-season so much that the hulking forward has had his contract upgraded," Lang wrote.

"He is now only one step away from potentially securing a Top 30 NRL full time contract." Panthers fans will be thrilled to hear the new recruits are making an impact with Lang also previously reporting the other signings were making inroads.

Ivan Cleary turns to new recruits in 2026

The Panthers system has been raided across the last few years with their dominance a result of their strong foundations. And with young juniors joining rival clubs, Cleary has also looked elsewhere with the NSW Cup and NRL State Championship winners a target.

Apart from Crosby, the Panthers also snapped up Tom Ale and Kalani Going from the Warriors. Lang previously revealed the talk coming out of the Panthers is the two have already impressed during a warm pre-season in Penrith.

Lang had already tipped the duo to play first grade in 2026 as the Panthers undergo a slight rebuild of their squad. "Word is new Panthers recruits Tom Ale and Kalani Going are training the house down in the Penrith heat. Expect them to play plenty of first grade in 2026," the reporter wrote on social media.

Going is a lock, but also played in the second-row for the Warriors' NSW Cup side throughout the season. Going is extremely unlikely to dislodge NSW and Australian lock Isaah Yeo, but he could feature off the bench as a versatile interchange.

The Panthers went down to eventual champions the Brisbane Broncos in 2025 ending their recent premiership stranglehold. Although Cleary will be keen to reignite their dynasty with a number of fresh faces tipped to make an impact throughout the season.

Just from the media and fan hype I'm getting some Preston Riki vibes from Cosby...........and that's not a good thing. That bloke was endlessly talked up because he looked the part.

i hope he does well - but he's starting in Cup and he's going to have the play extremely well to break into our FG side

Henry, Garner, Paps, Patea - he's going to force one of those guys out - good luck to him

i only see him getting a game maybe during origin or if we have a severe injury toll

but if he can dominate cup in 2026 - he'll have a bench spot for 27 when we likely move on Sorro & Garner as well as Henry gone.

If he really is some special talent I'd say its more of a loan deal like with Jett
