I don't get it, since he was signed till the end of 2028, why did the judge find that he could join the NRL after 2027? Why trim off the one year? Shouldn't it be for the full 3 more years?
Surely that was our concession. The question is why we had to concede anything, and the answer might be that there was a slight risk we would lose if it went to court.

It wasnt the judge who decided on the 2028 return, it was us.
In NSW, non-compete clauses can have some conditions of them watered down by the court, so we ran the risk that the judge decided 3 years was too harsh and reduced it to two or even one year (or found the whole thing unenforceable).

By reducing it by one year during negotiations and reaching a settlement regarding costs, we effectively removed the risk that the judge would do more. If he had thrown out our original agreement and found in favour of Lomax, we would have had to pay all legal fees (his and ours) and he would be playing for Melbourne this year.

The agreement reached overnight was placed into 'orders' by the court, making it legally binding on both sides.

"We are disappointed for Zac and for the game of rugby league and what we did to it we are sorry for all of the wrestling and dirty tactics we have soiled the game with for 20 years. Zac is a star player and quality person who will now remain on the sidelines until 2028."

Well that was the correct and expected outcome - our conditions of release to which Zac agreed stand, and Lomax is prevented from signing with another NRL club without our consent (and fair equitable recompense). 2028 or 2029 - don't really care.

Storm led Zac and his manager down the garden path, promising him things they couldn't deliver on, and filling him with faint hope that his actions were somehow justified. And in the process we exposed how the Storm attempted to use the NRL to pressure us away from the correct path.

PVL was also exposed as a dope, with his flip-flop comments between 10 year bans and wanting Zac back in the game. Just shut up PVL, and let the court actions and settlement remind you what's right and what's wrong, and that you should have kept your mouth shut.

And cherry on the top, we now have in published media articles confirmation that a (bigger) deal was reached pre-court, only for Matto to be where it fell apart, when he didn't agree to be on Melbourne's payroll for sitting out the rest of the year instead of on ours.

So no-one can say the Eels didn't try to reach an agreement - and Matto the pariah has been well and truly outed as uncooperative, and becomes a commodity that no-one else will want to touch. Thanks to that BA-era player option, we just have to wear Matto's remaining salary this year, and then it's a fond goodbye... 😂

I watched this 6 min video

Brent Read called Parramatta Hypocrites

Says our decision will look naive and foolishness in time especially now its going to piss off PVL

Expects the club will get blowback from the PVL & NRL now its ruined relationships.

And we havent won at all - Got no player, extra cap space and in the same position/situation without improving our football program.

Sounds bitter and angry - Mr Read

I may be living under a rock, but who is Brett Read anyway?

I presume he's a rugby league "journo" or podcaster of some sort... but I don't think the world turns on what one angry ant thinks.

Go suck it Brett Read - Lomax, his manager, Storm and maybe PVL and the NRL learned something today. Contracts are contracts, and agreed conditions of release stand.

I am speculating on the rumour about how they didn’t want Matterson and were just offering to take him to release him and clear some of our cap space. If you don’t want rumours here, don’t have a rumours thread.

No you weren't, you said he wouldn't have to go. He obviously had to, as he said he didn't want to go Poo Bear

And this isn't the rumours thread.
