Newman had a bit of a shocker for Leeds, cost them the game with his sin binning and knocked out the cup. Needs to grow up quickly. McDonnell had a solid game.

Plenty players have bad games. Newman is no guarantee to even be a starter. 15 spots to fill (or 13 as David sharpe said 17 are already secured).

Newman might be a good center in England but that doesn’t mean squat come nrl team list Tuesday time

Wishy & Meaney had good games vs. Dragons. Means was better defensively.

Lualilii scored a coupe but made some basic errors in defence and attacking. He probably couldve had another try or 2 really. Overall decent performance.

Sorro is doing the mid forward off the bench role really well for Panthers. He was good i thought. Good replacement for 20-25 mins for when Leota is off the field. 21 tackles with 0 misses.

Russell played well and grabbed another meat pie. Tough try to score considering he was basically plonked on 5mm of grass from the side line.

ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL MIKOLAJ OLEDZKI SIGNS WITH PERTH BEARS

The Perth Bears have landed their fifth Test player with Polish-born England International Mikolaj Oledzki to join the club on a three-year deal to start in 2027.
Born in Gdansk in Poland, Oldedzki has played 199 First-Class games for Featherstone Rovers, Bradford Bulls and now Leeds Rhinos.
The 27-year-old migrated to England as a nine-year-old and has earned nine caps for the England national team – most recently in the 2025 Ashes Series.
“Mik is a dynamic player who has established himself as one of the consistent prop forwards in the Super League competition,” Perth Bears Head Coach Mal Meninga said.
“I’ve admired his game for a long time, and I am thrilled to welcome Mik and his young family to Western Australia in 2027.”
Oldezki is the third England international to sign with the Bears, joining Leeds Rhinos teammates Harry Newman and James McDonnell in its Top 30 squad.
“It’s been an ambition of mine to test myself in the NRL and I am delighted to have the opportunity to do it with Mal Meninga and the Perth Bears,” Oldezki said.
“The roster is starting to take shape and it’s exciting to think about playing in front of our fans in Perth. I’ve been told they are a loyal and passionate group.
“Most of all, I’m excited about the opportunity to bring my family over to Western Australia.
“Growing up in Poland I would never have thought I’d have the opportunity to live in Perth, but rugby league has given me that chance. I love this game and will be giving it my all for the Bears in 2027 and beyond.”
Perth Bears General Manager of Football David Sharpe said the addition of Oldezki will bring even more firepower to a forward pack that already features three international representatives.
“Mik is a devastating ball runner and exceptional defender who is a very exciting addition to our roster,” Sharpe said.
“I’m very happy with our recruitment strategy and am confident there will be a few more announcements over the coming weeks.
“We also have our Tracks Academy set to launch in WA next month and a host of other initiatives with the North Sydney Bears and the Brisbane Tigers set to be unveiled.
“It’s an exciting time for our club, the people of Western Australia and also the proud fans of the North Sydney Bears.”

Another interesting signing and another that I’m not sure stays in the NRL beyond a year or two.

Given his size and weight, I’ve always wanted more out of Oledzki than he’s produced. Sky pundit brutally went at him in 2024, calling him soft and said that if he was playing, he would run at Oledzki and know that nothing was coming back. Oledzki had a better 2025 but his stats were skewed with a couple of massive metre making stints against Salford but still, he improved. 39 metres and 62 in tests 2 and 3 for England from the bench.

I don’t know if he can do it every week in the NRL, in all honesty.

Garner

Another Panthers premiership winner on Bears' hit list

Luke Garner is the latest member of the Panthers' premiership-winning dynasty who could be lost to the club.

The 30-year-old back-rower - who played in the last two of Penrith's four straight grand final wins - is off contract at the end of the season and attracting offers from rival clubs.

The Panthers want to keep Garner, a fine ball-running edge forward and reliable defender, but have salary cap pressure.

They also have several promising young forwards coming through who they want to extend and upgrade.

The Perth Bears are believed to be keen on Garner, whose big-game experience would be invaluable in the club's maiden season in 2027.

Garner has been an NRL regular since 2018, playing the first five seasons of his career at the Tigers.

He switched to Penrith in 2023, achieving the rare feat of going from wooden spooner to premiership winner in the space of 12 months.
