Big improvement over what was there, a shame there's no NRL game there this year once it's finished
Will the new capacity be sufficient for NRL games?

imo we should be aiming for all regularly used stadiums to be a minimum of 20,100 capacity & all regional stadiums without their own team to have a capacity of at least 10,100.

Further to that, the workplace rules around ANZAC Day also make it difficult to start much earlier as businesses can't start opening until 1pm (and it takes more than an hour to get a stadium ready to accommodate a large crowd)

If any tweaking to ANZAC Day was to happen, it would be that the game may return back to the 3pm kick off it had from 2003 - 2009.

Isnt Anzac Day now considered a public holiday in NSW where major retailers are not allowed to trade at all ( there are some exemptions ) i' m sure Minns bought that in last year.

Yeap it is, though there is still an extensive exception list, including stadiums. Regardless it should result in packed supermarkets on the Saturday as people panic buy.

Anzac Day in NSW has been a public holiday for decades. The restrictions are the same as those as during Easter -

The changes you mention, made in 2024, are outlined here -

More on topic, have a read of what was said about Canberra Stadium by both coaches after last night's match. Makes you realise really how bad the stadium's condition is.

Yeah, I remember talk about the Raiders moving some of their home games elsewhere if it wasn't sorted out.. is that still an option they'd consider to try and force the issue?

Yeah, if this was an American sports league the club would be making relocation noises by now.

It's far from what I want to see, but it might be a case where the Raiders have little choice to look at similar hardball tactics to try and get upgrades/replacement across the line... because there are no other ways to strongly make their point.

Labor has been in government since 2001. If any political party's been in power for 25 years, then surely they would display traits of arrogance and complacency. ACT has a "forever government" in charge. No surprise that Canberra stadium is collapsing or rotting away.

Canberra stadium is dire and a) needs to be rebuilt and b) in a better location.

ACT is essentially a dictatorship and Barr doesnt like rugby league.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the libs pushed a policy of a new stadium hard. The NSW election when Labor ran on a platform of not building the SFS shows that people care. It might not be enough for government change but might get Barr to do something.

its not a big enough issue here to sway the libs into power

honestly a non labor win here would have be a teal independent with a big name. theres no appetite for the canberra liberals to do anything

Yep. That’s community consultancy group pushed it apparently. Decision by committee has resulted in this mess.

Nope that is govt lies.

We were sold something like TQL in MLS, fans wanted it. It meant buying the Paceway and the extra space.

Labor came into Power and $309m was already put aside for it.

They only wanted to pay that for it, So amended the plans accordingly.

It is a farce, In 10 years time when the population hits the projected numbers. It will be too small

It also doesn't help that the ACT Government doesn't have great finances either. I suspect only the Feds do in all honesty.

That said, its an appalling situation that stadium.
