in sort im all good with third parties being tax free for long term contracts, but against them for shorter term contracts.

I kinda agree. TPA's should be Tax free only if a player is signed for more than 3 years.
And I think PNG companies / businesses are no pushovers. They will demand long term exposure/benefits if they do sign TPA's with any player.

Then how come Perth is not being afforded the same huge salary cap dispensation?
People on here said png was full of crime and would never attract players whilst Perth would be amazing with its beaches better traffic and cheaper property

And Perth are getting 80 million from the state govt plus a 300 million upgrade to hbf park

Is your opposition that png shouldn’t get tax payers money or have an unfair advantage

If it’s the latter then sure I wouldn’t mind Perth getting some help

I think clubs allowed it for png because of the bribe each got of 3 million per club whilst they wouldn’t allow it for Perth

I wouldn’t mind expansion clubs like Perth Melbourne and nz getting more help either

Personally don't care where they placed the expansion sides.

Do I want taxpayers money going to set up a league team in another country, no.

Would the Aust govt have used that money wisely somewhere else for say health or education whether here or overseas, probably not.

Do I think the tax free money is an advantage, yes, and no they shouldn't be getting that advantage. Remember, half the people on here make jokes that the AFL dish out extra money to certain clubs to even out the comp so this is no different.

Should the weaker sides also get some salary cap relief to attract better players?

Why are you mentioning the money Perth are getting for stadium upgrades or bribe money to the other NRL clubs, it has nothing to do with the salary cap and the tax free money the players in PNG will get?

Cause it’s help the Perth bid is getting from government to show they are getting some help

If it were up to me I would give regional clubs (titans cowboys dragons if they are based in gong, Canberra and newie) an extra grant of one million pa over city clubs and clubs like Perth png warriors storm 2 million extra

Same cap just more money to spend on off field

Think the way the afl does it is an extreme and doesn’t build solid clubs with real fan bases

I think things like the players village and tax allowances aren’t really crucial but they lessen people’s negative opinions about the club

I want the team to be full of talented locals

But if signing Walsh or Cleary gets some eyeballs and media at the start so be it

It’s not a team for Aussie mercenaries and if it is it won’t work

You are discussing apples and oranges when comparing Perth's govt support for infrastructure and PNG getting a big salary cap benefit.

The Dragon's or any other club getting $1m or $2m extra to spend on non-salary cap stuff will do bugger all to attract better quality players given they all have money and none are broke.

And to say the village and tax free is not crucial and that it will help to change peoples perception, well....to me it actually means they have to offer something else that no other club offers (or is allowed to offer such as tax free) to attract players. Do you honestly think if they were not offering this that star or above average players would contemplate going to PNG if they have other similar dollar value offers in Aust or NZ?

Agree with you re the more locals the better to build ownership and for locals to see it as a pathway rather than mercenaries after a pay cheque.

I don't have anything against PNG being successful. Just want a level playing field and may the best team win. Not the same teams all the time as fans of teams with no hope will gradually lose interest in the long run.

The village and tax concessions help the club In its first five years

Without it would’ve taken longer

Gould was the first one who said the village and tax concessions weren’t needed he’s where I got the idea

I think singing Alex Johnson who probably comes anyway without tax concessions means more than a Cleary or Walsh

I think the nrl want some Aussies over there to help market the club to Aussie fans on tv initially and people who thinks it’s a terrible idea

Without the tax incentives sure they would’ve struggled for Aussie players but they aren’t where the club should be imo

It took Cronulla close to 50 years of top level football to win a comp and be strong financially

And I don’t think png will win a title in our lifetimes either but on field results aren’t that important, pathways, crowds and commercial success are

Because apparently we can’t have the nrl be an unfair comp, unless you’re png And you’ve given some massive kick backs to the current clubs to play along!

Tbf that is all true, hence why png are going to have to offer 40% more salary to players to go live there.

perth is building a solid if not spectacular year 1 roster, the more players go there to play and see what’s on offer the more will look at a relocation in seasons to come.

perth should have been allowed a $50k relocation allowance per player for top 20 players and 50% cap concessions for any player signed from outside nrl for 5 years.
but hey ho, we move on.

Well the wa govt refused to pay a license fee or any money going directly to the club

3 million per club is a small price to pay for a lifetime of tax free dollars lol

i dont think it'll be lifetime. it'll likely be abolished once the aus gov funding concludes after the 10th year but that would be for the aus tax free incentive, the papuan tax free incentive might continue after. who knows

They’ve received over 20 million in Aussie govt funding and look what’s it’s done for their player pool

Can only imagine what happens to our player pool since we are getting up to 30 times more

PNG especially but Tonga Samoa and Fiji international sides are going to get way stronger

Having all these sides at an elite level helps the rugby league World Cup make money

Fijian Rugby chucking a wobbly at the Aust Govt. to provide more money to them off the back of what is being paid to PNG and Pacific from the NRL deal
