Seriously the Clearys have an opportunity to cement there place in NRL history as the greatest duo ever If they haven’t done so already.

I think they have unfinished business, they are both driven more more premiership success.

Both Nath and Yeo should have stands named after them as part of the next contract negotiations.
I'm not joking either, money can't buy that type of legacy.
That is not what drives either Ivan or Nathan.

In the foreseeable future , with our depth and talent within and coming thru , they could create something that will never be replicated.

That is what drives them and will ensure they are part of this club long term going forward.

Of course its part of what drives them. Not saying its the biggest part but it is

I caught a bit of the NRL 360 broadcast, it was basically nothing we don’t already know, we can’t keep them all. It has been an issue for what six years now and more pain ahead. The only player not on there list was Tago as he is not off contract till 2028. That’s the elephant in the room, Tago. Obviously his salary alone doesn’t solve all our issues, but…..

Way I see it.

Tago leaves early for a first grade spot. That’s $600-700k freed up. Give it to McLean.

Alamoti & Jenkins will be replaced with a couple kids.

Biz and Kenny extend on similar coin.

Clarke replaces Martin, he will be a beast. Another $500k freed up, give it to Talagi.

Leota moves on or maybe goes one more year on the bench on a sweetheart deal. Yeo moves to starting prop and maybe eventually bench prop so takes a slightly reduced deal. Philips gets some coin and we continue to see Smith/Yeo/Philips offering a more dynamic middle ball playing magazine than we previously utilised.

Papali’i has been our best forward for the last half a season. If we need his coin to upgrade Cleary, it is what it is, Wigmore/Armstrong will also be beasts. If we can we keep him, great.

Edwards is the first of the big 3 to go after 2028, Yeo goes the following year after a few years transitioning into a lesser role. Get those right and we’re a contender until Cleary is 36 if he holds together

2028: Edwards, Edgar, McLean, Patea, To’o, Talagi, Cleary, Yeo, Kenny, Philips, Clarke, Wigmore/Armstrong, Smith, Cogger/Scott/Lussick, Patea/Crosby/Lemoto/Leota, Garner

There's too much speculation about players ALWAYS departing for more money.

We accepted for years that players stayed at the Roosters for "unders", but now every player that has played for Penrith since 2020, according to the so called experts, is out for more money.

Everyone in the media wants Nathan Cleary to leave because it's about three months of headlines and talking points.

Liam Martin leaving opens up speculation about new clubs, money, tax, replacements and on and on and on...bullshit.

There are the standouts that want the extra 100k but in reality, that's about the difference between staying and going in most cases at the high end contract.

Don't forget that every club has to squeeze 30 players into 12.3 million, so only ridiculous offers that ruins salary caps for years, ala Newcastle and the Dragons, will be scarce.

Matt Cameron and Ivan are doing a pretty good job shuffling the deck chairs and I have all faith in them getting it right....again.

Look its possible he leaves IMO , if it happens it happens. I dont think its likely but its interesting to consider what might come after. By the end of 2027 i'd expect Blaize to be really coming into his own, Cleary leaving would give us a chance to sign any halfback available really. I wouldnt mind bringing Katoa home(not sure if hes available), He is struggling a bit this year but thats standard for young halfbacks, Weve got some talented playmakers on the books currently also, Birve in Ball and Moran in Matts both look like top notch prospects in the halves but probably to young for 2028 even if they do kick on.

Nathan is about to receive a million pound offer from a English club now that could peak his interest.

1.9m AUD, he can make that at an NRL club. He'd take home as much or more easily on a PNG tax free contract. I'd be disappointed if he left us for SL for a million GBP.

Nathan could earn $1million plus in England as a forty year old if his body holds up. No need for him to rush over there.

Nathan is a winner and about to go into his peak years, there is no way in hell he'll head to the UK now to play in the wet and misrable weather whilst he could be cemtenting his name in NRL folklore being the best to have done it.

There is just no way. Or would he leave to join any start up team or a club needing a rebuild.

3 year deal at Penrith + 1 option, he might sign another year or two after if he's married by then and a Dad, then who knows.

Cameron Smith played 400 + games until he was 38. Three official premierships, point scoring record and will be remembered for an eternity.

Nathan might not get to 400 but by staying at one club he will break plenty of records here. Games, point scoring, premiership wins etc. He's already got 4 titles, six or seven on the resume would be nice.

TV deals alone when he retires will see him very comfortable, not unlike Cronk does now with "expert analysis".

And I'm going to speculate that Nathan doesn't go much past 33 and get the tripe bashed out of him every week. So I'm estimating about another 5 years for us to enjoy him.
