Sydney sporting events are reknowned for attracting sub-par crowds, it's not limited to rugby league and has nothing to do with the number of rugby league teams in Sydney. I put it down to poor public transport, poor ammentities (in some cases) and too many other things to do.

their crowds have gone up but at Olympic park since then after the origin game down there.

id expect 20,000 in the new ground

I know I am going to regret asking this but why do you expect 20000 at the storms new ground ?

Have you conducted a poll, studied past crowd trends or just plucked a figure out of your arse ??

give it 5 years and things will be fine.

i think we can get the following in that time :

1. souths / dogs / tigers - 25,000 - 27,000

the rest 15,000 - 18,000 easy.

if souths win a competition in the next 5 years, add 5000 to that crowd average.

the clubs that play at homebush have the potential for AFL type crowds if they keep marketing their season tickets and games.

they currently average around 13,000, and it seems reasonable that with another origin game there next year and the new stadium being finished after that they will add at least 5000.

also if some AFL clubs fail in melbourne or relocate, add on even more.

wait till aFl start rationalising the number of clubs in melbourne, the storm will be a big beneficiary

and yes the figure is based on guesswork

The fact that OP's crap stops a lot of AFL fans from going to see what it's all about, hence their crowds today are made up of 8-12K fanatical supporters. Add general fans & the people who just want a night's entertainment & you've got a good crowd. I think 20K's a good estimate, give or take 2K

When the Lions were winning up here a lot of RL fans went to go just to see what it was about, and because the Gabba's a good ground (if you're high up!) people could do this.

It's not too many teams, its not enough RL fans who want to go to games that is the Sydney's problem!

I think melbourne would have roughly the same amount of teams in the afl,as sydney does in the nrl and they dont have these problems with small crowds.

Not to mention there's about 500K less people down here. Perth Red was spot on in saying it's not that there's too many teams in Sydney, it's getting people off their arses to go see them that's the problem.

These are the same people that will bitch and moan if/when their team gets the arse from the comp. If that happens then they'll have nobody but themselves to blame.

mate, there's no way we'd get 20000 average down here - 15k tops. down here AFL is a religion - people are crazier about ariel-ping pong here than wat sydneysiders are about league. we dont even get games at reasonable hours on tv - there's no way that'd we'd get massive crowds, even with an awesome stadium, when ur against the might of the AFL.

in Sydney, NRL teams are going broke; in Melbourne, they're thriving. no club will leave melbourne, they're just doing too well. The north melb kangaroos were the closest thing to relocation, they're sooo unpopular, but still manage to pull an 26000 average. If they get short on cash, the AFL is loaded, they'll give them a slice of the $780mil they got from tv. f**k, the collingwood magpies have 63500 AVERAGE. a couple of months ago they pulled 89000 to a club match - its ridiculous - and its not even good to watch!!

anyway..my point is that we cant expect huge crowds when competing against that sh*t!

And thats why Sydney need 3/4 teams now or we just be saying the same things every 10 years.

another interesting point..in terms of crowds, brisbane the pride of our league - they pull 33k...the lions still pull 31k, and they have one of the lowest. AFL is a machine, its a monster, and i hope to god that it doesnt suceed in western sydney or on the gold coast.

marketing by clubs is the difference.

RL clubs in sydney never had to do it with poker machines behined them.

i think its a fair chance re them winning the comp.

they have some very good players and just need to lose players like heggarty, kidwell and maybe vagana.

that would give the club around $1 million for players.

isaac luke, sandow and wing are very talented. when you have a good 6,7 and 9 thats the basis for a great side.

they need more forwards to help asotasi

none, surprisingly!!! :lol::lol:

im surprised you even answered.

as a RL fan, do you get happy when you see State of origin getting 10 million viewers, and absolutely destroying AFL.

you know RL has 4 of the most watched programs every year, AFL only has 1. indeed, origin this year (each game) got similar ratings to the AFL grand final.

Or 1 origin game in brisbane gets more viewers than the entire Brisbane lions AFL season.

pretty impressive stuff eh mate?
